I have some very useful Crankshaft Seal tools for the 1.8T motor. It will be a while (I hope!) before I need to use them again, so if somebody would like to borrow let me know. My location is New England USA (Boston - Vermont - New Hampshire, generally). Pickup is better, but shipping is possible.

I have a VAG-3415 equivalent from China, to help you stop the crankshaft pulley when you need to loosen/tighten the big bolt. I didn't have the wherewithal to create my own, and opted to get the version from China.

I have a VAG T-10053 Seal Assembly Guide, allegedly a genuine item.

Of all the worries I had for my 1st TB job, and 1st Crankshaft Seal replacement, anything involving these two tools turned out to be easy-peasy with no problems. I can't imagine installing the seal without that T-10053, and I'm sure that I would have messed that part up. I should've gotten the seal extractor also, but it was quite expensive so I did not do so.

Hmmm, I don't recall having to remove the crankshaft pulley to replace my timing belt. On my 1.8T B5.5. Why did you have to?
I had to replace the front crankshaft seal.... I wish I did not need to do this. Just replacing the timing belt/etc. would have been a lot less worry! But the oily mess inside my TB cover meant that one or more seals must be replaced, and this one looked the worst.

Thankfully I did not have the same issue, but let me ask...are you referring to what they call the "half moon" seal? I ask because timing belt time is again around the corner and that half moon shaped seal came in my last kit I ordered.

I am not referring to that seal. I did not get one of those half moon seals in my TB Kit.

I am referring to the round seal that is at the front of the Crankshaft. This seal is behind the gear which drives the timing belt, at the bottom/front of the engine. The TB Kit that I purchased included this seal, as well as the two similar seals that go onto the front of the Camshafts, behind the timing belt.
