The higher output unit is being used in the cars that have Start-Stop. If yours didn’t come with that, it will still fit but requires a lot of modifications in order to get it working.
(Think of extra wiring to the CAN Gateway and a current sensor on your battery negative pole)

I think they only offered stop start on TDIs back for B6...I have a 3.6 4Motion and sales the broschure and order sheets did not even mention anything higher than the 140amp alternator.....I would be interested in a 180 amp alternator too, however will the AGM battery be even more fussy than it already is????
