hey guys,

a newbie here but definitely not one in VAG world, have always been attracted to the cars of VAG group and have owned couple of RS6 C5, A8 D2, VW Phaeton, a few Cayenne's, a B6 Paasat, MK6 DSG GTI and others. Still own a C6 RS6 and have always wanted a W8 so here it finally is, since it is such a rare car especially where i am at the moment, it was a really long waiting time and as soon as one popped up for sale i had to snatch it.

I have seen what people around here say about the W8, so they said about the RS6 C5 or the Phaeton, i keep buying this kind of cars so i guess that says it all.

Having said that, i am glad to be here and i hope i'll enjoy my time around and contribute with some of my knowledge acquired along the way.

This particular W8 is a Japanese spec. which was imported to Dubai about 3 years ago by a fellow European expat, also a bit of a car nut, and it was him i bought it from as he moved back to Europe couple of months ago. The car was always maintained at the delaer in Japan and all services have been done every 5k km(3k miles) using the 5w40 oil, and in the last 3 years services were made every 10k km(6k miles), has had the gearbox oil and filter replaced, spark plugs done, brakes, new tires. I checked it before buying with my vagcom and it came out clear.

I knew about the torque converter and cam adjusters issues before buying it so that was my first concern, however since the diagnose showed none on these and given that engine runs so smooth i pulled the trigger and i am pretty happy with it, the car drives super well, it's very smooth and comfortable, at least for a Passat it has exceeded my expectations, never had one, apart from a '11 B6 which didn't really impress me at all.

I do hope that being a 2004 manufactured car it has the redesigned seal for the Torque Converter, the C5 RS6 had the same issue and i know that the latter cars made in 2004 had a whole lot smaller rate of failure, my second RS6 C5 had 3 gearboxes replaced by Audi and the 3rd one was the lucky one that lasted :), so i know pretty well the 5hp platform.

Given its almost 11 years old the car has aged so well, it has very little to none signs of wear, both interior and exterior, it does give me that feeling of a solid well built car, when getting in from my '09 RS6 C6 into this one i don't feel like i'd be in a much lesser quality car, it is a obviously a difference but not that abrupt as i expected.

The car got here in 2012 from Japan at around 77k miles and now is 103k miles and thanks to its previous owners i can say that doesn't show at all its mileage/years. There is not a single sign underneath of any liquid leaking or even a little bit of a wet gasket, it is all bone dry everywhere and the suspension parts seem to be factory fitted as all bolts are paint marked, curiously as it is so smooth and no strange noises. I had to replace the outer axle boots, don't know why these crack so often, i had the same issue my C5 RS6.

In terms of future plans, i want to go back to servicing it at every 3k miles, put some sports spring as factory set up is a bit high for my taste, probably will go with FK as i have seen many were happy with that set up, change the HU with a Pioneer AppRadio as currently it has some Chinese crap which has its own mind and just maintain it as per the best standards, as i always did with all my cars.

well...nothing much has really happened lately, apart from replacing the 2DIN frame and finally installing the FK springs which have really transformed the car in terms of looks and dynamics, ok...not so much in terms of dynamics :)
