So I recently was given a Passat . I noticed That it was shifting odd (not going into overdrive on the highway and shifting out of 2nd and 3rd at really high rpm 3800-4500) I have done a lot of research, I have taken it to dubwerx in Cincinnati and they can't find any error codes and couldn't replicate the issue. What's odd is it doesn't do this consistently. I can drive this car for a day or 2 and it won't happen at all, but then when it comes up I can't drive in automatic because it keeps occurring so I have to drive it in tip. Sorry for a long post but I'm just trying to figure out what is wrong.

02 v6 awd tiptronic Maf Sensor Question

So I have been having shifting issues, and one suggestion was checking the MAF sensor. After doing some reading i unplugged and drove it for a couple miles to see if it would run better. I actually noticed the opposite, my car ran even worse with really hard shifting and clunking. I noticed now that the error code p0102 and p1857 have showed up I imagine because i unplugged the sensor and then drove it. Why would my car perform worse with the Maf sensor unplugged?

Thanks for the advice I did take the maf apart and clean it, however I'm still having issues with my 2nd and 3rd gears intermittently. I took it to another local import shop and they were able to replicate the issue. How ever they do not feel it's a bad transmission (they did receive a p1857 error code, but they think that's from me disconnecting the maf sensor)I'm going to check my transmission control module this weekend. And replace my maf sensor. Anyone have any other input. I do have a video of my dash when it's acting up
In 2nd gear but I doubt I can post it.

I unplugged it to see if it would drive any better from some advice from a local mechanic. I have taken it 2 two vw specialist and neither of them have seen any codes to indicate the transmission has an issue.
