Sounds ghetto, I know. But it would be handy to just use zip ties to secure new silicone vacuum lines. Carbon-black ones. Yay or nay?

I have been using Zip-ties on some of my new vacuum hoses, and on the crank case vent hoses in place of the metal screw clamps. But I am worried that the heat will cause them to crack and fail and then open me up to vacuum problems again. I was hoping to pick the brains of minds vastly...

    B5 Garage
Ever since we got our '02 Wagon in July, the windshield washers have been on the fritz... the front ones seemed anemic, and sometimes would hardly spray, while the rear window never got any fluid out. After running through two gallons of fluid in just as many months, I had time tonight to look...
  8. Plastic Zip Ties in lieu of Hose Clamps

    B5 Garage
Anybody ever used plastic zip ties in lieu of hose clamps for vaccum/air lines? The reason I ask: today when I replaced my air filter I noticed that the check valve located on top of the air box was broken. I bought another from the dealer ($40 - can find better prices on line, but...
  9. Snipped the zip tie holding the coilpack harness; need to replace?

    B5 Garage
I did my first spark plug change yesterday and to unplug the harness from one of the coil packs, I needed to remove one of the zip ties (aka NyTie) that holds the wiring harness in place. Is it critical that I replace it or will the harness ride just fine with it gone? I would rather not burn...

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
