  1. What's this rotation sound?

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Solved: What's this rotation sound? Hi All, Just bought a 2002 Passat V6 (GLS 4motion, automatic and tiptronic transmission). This forum has already been extremely helpful to me, for replacing the PCV system for instance, so I thought I'd give it a try to see whether anyone can help me explain...
  2. Sounds from wheel rotation

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Hey guys... 2000 Passat... I'm getting two sets of noises from my wheels as they rotate. The first one is a click click click that seems to happen once per rotation coming from the left front. It can be quite loud but goes away immediately when i press the brake pedal even a tiny bit. Have...
  3. Vibration at 80+ Mph After Rotation

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
I recently had my tires Rotated and balanced. Now I have a noticable vibration around 80mph. Definately going around curves to the right. The weights have no fallen off and I checked the lugs to make sure they were tight.
  4. Free Tire Rotation & Multi-Point Inspection @ VW Dealers

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Volkswagen is having free tire rotation and multi-point inspections for the month of November. i don't know if this is a freebie that we should take advantage of or is it another ploy mechanics and stealerships use to find ways to tell you how you need more unnecessary services? what you guys...
  5. Tire noise after rotation...........

    B5 Garage
2003 Passat 1.8/Tip I rotated tires the other day front to back. I`ve been putting it off for a while a went probably 12K miles between rotations. I am getting alot of tire noise from the front, kinda like a "whump, whump" sound ever so slightly. I rotated the tires back to where they were and...
  6. V6 rotation direction

    B5 Garage
After a lot of work I'm finally looking at my timing belt and the cams are 180 deg off. Old belt is still on and looks good. Maybe I'm being way over cautious but I'm thinking that I should rotate the crankshaft in the running direction. Which direction would that be looking at the front of the...
  7. How do you guys handle staggered wheels - Rotation, etc?

    Wheel and Tire Forum
What's the general idea with staggered sets of wheels? I'd like to go that route only because the wheels I'm considering (other thread) are a deep dish design and I'd like deeper wheels than the front can take clearance wise, so the wider wheels would be on the rear, 9.5, with the front being...

  10. 4 Motion Tire Rotation

    Wheel and Tire Forum
Does anyone know why VW recommends that the tires be rotated without a cross? Firestone recommends the same thing. I'm on my second set and while they are wearing quite evenly across the tire and with little cupping, it seems that the right are wearing out faster than the left.
  11. 4 Motion Tire Rotation

    Wheel and Tire Forum
Everything I've read indicates that the 4 mo tires should be rotated without crossing- i.e RF to RR and LF to LR. The tires are non-directional and it sems to me that I would get a little better wear and reduce the tire noise some if I crossed the fronts going to the rear. Anyone have any...

  13. Crankshaft vs. Camshaft Rotation

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Somebody please check me on this. On a four-stroke engine (i.e. what we have), the crankshaft rotates twice for every single rotation of the camshaft. Therefore, for every degree of crankshaft rotation, there is 1/2 degree of camshaft rotation. And, FWIW, can anyone here verify that the ECU...
  14. tire rotation

    Wheel and Tire Forum
I tried search but to no avail. Question is dealersahip switched front tires from right to left and same with rear. i have conti's on 04 passat i'm only asking because manual says to go from front to rear same side, has anyone heard of this before?
  15. Tire Rotation - side-to-side vs front-to-back

    Wheel and Tire Forum
So the owners manual says that if your going to rotate your tires, you should rotate front-to-back and back-to-front. Why is this? Am I going to kill myself if I rotate side-to-side? :icon_eek: The reason I ask is that I'm trying to pinpoint a whining, "wub wub wub" sound that appears to...
  16. noise from engine compartment after tire rotation

    Volkswagen Passat B6 Discussion
Almost immediately after my recent tire rotation, i am beginning to hear noise from the engine compartment. it is like a pulsating noise from the front of the car (though I do NOT feel any vibrations). The noise begins to be audible at about 50mph and increases as the speed increases. But, If...
  17. Tire rotation question?

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Just a basic tire question? Why do you only rotate tire back to front and not diagonally? How is a tire directional? How could you tell by looking at the rim/tire which tire goes where?
  18. Tire rotation question

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Hello B5 experts, I have a dumb question regarding rotating tires.

I feel stupid asking this...but should tires be rotated criss cross or front/back?
  20. Interesting alignment occurances after rotation (bit long)

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Attended a track day almost 2 months ago, the track consists of more right hand tight turns than left, so naturally my left tires were worn more than my right, but the car drives fine afterwards... Fast forward to yesterday, I rotated the tires front and back, and my alignment, steering is all...
