  1. Volkswagen Passat TDI Discussion
My Passat has been leaking oil for a couple of months. I've had the valve cover gasket unit replaced and the oil filter housing replaced and I can see oil leaking from the filter cap. Can anyone tell me more reasons it would continue leaking? TIA for help!

Ok guys this is driving me nuts. Spent 5 hours on Saturday doing the driver's side VCG, cam seal, and cap; couldn't get to the CCTV gasket & half moon seal because the timing belt cover wouldn't come off, and I ran slap out of patience. Still has a small (dripping slow) oil leak, coming...

Ok guys, I just did the seafoam thing and changed out the oil. I do have suction at the oil cap, still a tiny leak, but here's the kicker; oil leaks out a LOT faster when the oil cap is off. What does that mean??? with it on I'm getting one drip about every 5 seconds, with it off it flows...

04 1.8T Manual Wagon. I've replaced the Suction Jet Pump. I've replaced all the check valves I could find in the PCV system, using some standard Kynar ones from US plastics for the standard check valves s well as a replacement 3-way valve and puck valve. I've replaced the Valve Cover Gasket and...

I'm getting persistent crankcase valve gasket leaks in my '07 2.0T. I've replaced the gasket a couple of times, and it seems that my problem is the PCV (or who knows what else). I'm taking things apart and looking for problems while I look for the problematic Y connector that is probably...

Back in Dec 2015 I bought a 2002 Volkswagen Passat 2.8L V6 Long story short I drove the car 2 weeks before it developed a severe oil and anti freeze leak. So I parked it until I came up with funds to put into it. Until 3 days ago it has sat since the beginning of January. We diagnosed that...

Hey Guys, Recently my Passat has been trying to commit suicide by draining all of its oil while driving. I was first able to spot the problem when large white smoke clouds plumed from the engine bay as the oil dripped onto the hot exhaust. By the time I was able to park and take a look at...

Some background before I describe the problem I'm having right now. My car had been misfiring for a few months, changed plugs and coil packs and kept driving it, then two weeks ago it started idling very rough so I caved and took it into the shop. Turns out my PCV Valve was cracked and the hose...

I recently serviced the PCV system on my 2000 1.8T ATW, replacing several worn and damaged components and cleaning the pipe that wraps around the engine. I also replaced the valve cover gasket (as it was leaking) and for good measure replaced all check valves and vacuum lines. Drove the car...

This is a continuation of my earlier post about a bad oil leak. I was hoping the leak was caused by cold temperatures (mid-winter) but now that it is warmer, the leak is still there and I need to fix it. I'm fairly certain the leak is from the front crankshaft seal or as in Tomvw's case "Mine...

I just bought a creampuff of a W8. Thing was a grocery getter for an old retired couple from day 1! It is not without its issues mechanically though. I am having the gas tank replaced (VW is paying for it due to a recall). There is an oil leak coming off of the Timing Chain Cover. It is coming...

2000 Passat, V6 I have a steady drip, drip, drip of oil from the front of the engine. I just replaced the seal in the oil cooler (see link below), the seal that is behind the oil filter and at first it seemed to solve the leak but then I drove the car enough to warm up the engine and I...

Has anyone had their rear main seal go out? My 2.0T had the rear main seal fail and leak badly at approx 83000 miles. It was a costly repair at close to $1k. Shop said it was fairly common on the 2.0T

I have done a good amount of research on this to no avail. More info is always better than less in my experience so let me start from the beginning... This is my 3rd b5, my first 2.8 though. I bought it just before winter with a little over 100k miles. I planned on doing the timing belt and a...

Hi all-- I've experienced several ongoing issues with my 2008 2.0T Passat. This car was bought about 4 months ago with close to 108,000 miles. Although I have tried to take care of this car to the best of my avilities, I am outraged at the neglnigence I have experienced with three different...

Hey folks! It's a second post, look at that- I bought this car 7 years ago and she's STILL a beauty but she needs lots of love and new parts. The car is at 250,000 miles (100,000 by me proud to say) but she had a critical failure last year Xmas morning. The oil started pouring out the front...
