I am trying to choose a head unit for my 2001.5 passat with monsoon, but I don't understand the "crossover" options between the two units. What is the difference between Digital E's and High-Pass/Low-Pass Filters?? And which is more compatible with my system?

After blowing both my front speakers i'm in the process of installing a set of component infinity references. What i'm wondering is if there are stock crossovers, and if so, do i need to bypass or remove them when using the crossovers that came with the new speakers?

My four channel amp has fixed crossovers. Each pair of channels can have a full, low pass or high pass. High pass is 120 and low pass is 80, with a 12db Butterworth (don't know what Butterworth means, other than syrup, but it seems important), wouldn't that leave a low spot in the spectrum?
