  1. No Compression. Time for the graveyard?

    B5 Garage
So it looks like the Passat may not make it to 500K afterall. This car has 475,000 KM on it and the crankshaft seal went, oil everywhere. I thought this would be a simple fix but things escalated pretty quickly. After replacing the seal I had to retime the engine because I made the mistake of...
  2. 2006 Passat 2.0T: low compression cyl 4

    Volkswagen Passat B6 Discussion
Bought a 2006 Passat with misfires. Compression check shows only 90 psi on cyl 4, 150 psi on cyl 1-3. I think engine code is BPY? Where to start with troubleshooting the low compression and associated misifres on cyl 4? Vagcom does not show misfires on cyl 1-2 (some on 3, but likely caused by...
  3. Need Help: Zero Compression

    B5 Garage
I have a 2004 Passat Wagon with the 1.8T Gas engine. I was driving down the highway with the cruise control set at 70 mph when the car all of a sudden shut off. I pulled over and when I tried to start the car, all I could he was the starter motor turning. I also received the P0343 code for the...
  4. Its your fuel pump. No wait, youve got no compression?

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
My 99 was driving just find, zero issues. One day I was driving to work and it died. Seemed like a fuel issue. Took it to a VW dealer, the same I always use, who at first said it was a fuel pump issue. I said go for it, repair it. They did so then came back and said there is no compression from...

  8. compression test findings

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Along with an oil change and fuel filter change , I decided to pull the plugs and do a compression test. I am happy with the results Cyl 1 163 Cyl 2 162 Cyl 3 165 Cyl 4 175 For 267000 kms I don't think that is too bad.
  9. Hyper-extended lifters? (Compression issue)

    B5 Garage
Hey all, I bent 3 intake valves on my 2001 V6 B5 after replacing the CCT. I had a guy who works at a machine shop replace just those valves, and the seals and lifters. Put it back together, timed properly (at least well enough to not bend more valves), and did TBA. The car did start but flashing...
  10. compression check procedure

    B5 Garage
I just read through the Chilton manual for B5 passats before doing a compression check. they want me to block open the throttle valve but don't say why. is this necessary on an ATW engine with e-gas? thanks.
  11. Compression test results. Comments appreciated.

    B5 Garage
Hello all, I did the compression test on my 98' 1.8t. I did the test with the engine warm. I wanted to rule out if the worn piston rings and uneven compression are the cause of the engine vibration. I appreciate your input. Here are the results. Cyl #1 (Closest to the timing belt) : 170 psi...
  12. B5.5 power increase after compression restore fluid

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Sup PW! On my way home from work I stopped by autozone for some looking around and picked up compression restore oil fluid, which you poor into your oil and it supposedly increases compression in the cylinders by improving lubrication and sealing. Compatible with all kinds of oils both synthetic...
  13. 99 B5 V6 with no compression

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
99 B5 V6 AHA engine, 115k miles, just bought it for $400. Bank 1 has no compression because the CCT shoes failed, causing the intake cam to jump 4/5 teeth and crash some valves. I replaced the shoes to do a compression test on a cylinders 4-5-6. The odd thing bank 2 has no compression on 2...

I posted this on whatever the integra forum is called, but I have little faith in those guys when it comes to anything other than CAIs, spinning rims, and exhaust tips. Can someone please look at this and tell me their thoughts: PICT0846 - YouTube This is my first compression test, I have no...

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
bought a 2001 v6 30v the other day with 114,000 miles at an auction. the car had no spark plugs in it (figure they were removed by previous owner to either test compression or look at pistons). The timing belt looks good, the engine is oily/greasy. The engine turns over and timing belt...
  19. Low Compression Pressure in Cyl #2

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
While I was replacing spark plugs yesterday, I thought that it would be convenient to check compression pressure. I was surprised to find out that Cyl #2 is now 20% below wear limit. #1 112 (dry) #2 75 (dry) / 83 (wet with about 1/5 straw of oil) #3 107 (dry) #4 118 (dry) The wear limit is...
  20. Help V6 with no compression

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
Hello, I'm officially stumped. I recently purchased a 2002 passat wagon that I knew had issues when I bought it. The car has no compression on all 6 cylenders. The car is in time and after pulling the valve cover on one side it didn't appear to have any"sticky" valves. I have read about car wash...
