I've looked through the VW oil specs and it seems I have a few options in terms of an oil change. Car - 2005 Passat 1.8T GLS @ 76,000km 1) Do it myself. Need to get some tools but my condo unit has a heated garage. Won't be so bad in the winter however better get familiar with the Hayned...

G-oil high viscosity at 150C - Bob Is The Oil Guy Green Earth Technologies Yep that's right, BEEF TALLOW! I'm not one to go too crazy on save-the-earth gimmicks, but I have run biodiesel in my TDIs because it's better for the environment and better for the car. This G-oil seems promising...

I have a 2001 v6 passat with 115k miles. I've been using Castrol 5w-40 fully synthetic and just got a great deal on some Super-S fully synthetic oil, I think by Smitty's, but it only comes in 5w-30 and 10w-30. Will it be ok to use this oil or should I just stick the expensive Castrol or Mobil 1...

I just purchased a 1.8t and the stealership put in 5w-30 and the manuel suggests 5w-40 full synthetic. Is it ok for me to goto a garage and get an oil change before I need one to change from the 30 weight to 40 weight? and is it ok to change it like that?

Hello All, I have 1998, 1.8T AEB. I went to O'Reilly to get some synthetic oil for the oil change. They did not have 5W-40 Passat recommended. So, I got 5W-30 Castrol Edge Synthetic. Do you think it is ok to use 5W-30 grade oil, rather than 5W-40? What grades can be used to substitute 5W-40...

I know it`s been covered soooooo many times but I`ve acquired a 4 Litre can of 5W-40, VW 502.00 Castrol Edge but it`s for a Turbo Diesel. I change my oil and filter every 5000-6000 miles depending on how my free time falls, but I never go more than 6000. It`s due in the next 800 miles or so...

I found from one of the Audi PDF's that Castrol 5w-30 is 502.00 specific (please see below)? I used this one on my last oil change with a Mobile filter. I got this for $29 (5 liter jug with filter) from AutoZone. With 5w-40 it would be roughly $50 which is same as firestone charges for full...

I filled up on this over the weekend, and realized that it's 30w not 40w and it doesn't meet the 502.00 spec. :banghead: It was the first time I have changed the oil in the Passat since we bought it 4 years ago. I have been taking it to the dealership for each change. I should be ok for 3000...

I was a little low on oil and just added a quart of VW spec castrol synthetic 5w-30, I think my dealer used Mobile 1 0w-40 on my last oil change. Am I screwed? Or should I be ok?

I bought 2003 Passat, and the previous owner had used 5w-30 oil, where as the manual says 5w-40, and 5w-30 only for topping off. Now, 5w-40 oil seems to be uncommon in the US, so can I use 5w-30 instead, and how much is the difference between 5w-40 and 5w-40 oil. I read somewhere that it makes a...

My indie now stocks both AMSOIL 5w40 and the Elf 5w30, and told me the few people who tried it so far have been extremely happy. It goes for $7.69/qt. Any experience/input would be appreciated. Here the datasheet http://www.lubadmin.com/upload/produit/FichePDF/lang_1/5094.pdf

Hello All, New to the forum... I recently purchased my Dad's 2001 2.8 V6 Passat. and it has only 15,000 miles. He barely drove it since he is 85 ! Anyhow the first thing I did was take it to my local VW dealer to be checked out and to get an oil change. When I looked at the receipt, I noticed...

Man I just have the worse luck with mechanics... I'm about to throw in the towel and start going to the dealer. I must have killed a mechanic in a past life because in this life they all have something in for me. The latest: Go in for an oil change and 'checkup' at this guy who has been fine...

Should I be using 5w30 or 40 in my '02 AWM? I do use synthetic Mobil 1 5w30 now. I just read somewhere that vw uses a bigger oil filter now? I normally use a Bosch 3421. What oil and filter do you all recommend? Thanks.

The manual and Bentley guide recommend 10W30 over 5W30 oils(2002V6PassatAuto). They really make it seem that there is a real big difference. I could not find 10W30 at my auto store tthe other day so I used 5W30 Castrol . Is there a big difference and can it cause a big problem? I am thinking...
