  1. VW won’t crank. Check my diagnostic process please!

    B5 Garage
Splices resoldiered and reinsulated. Key in and .…ignition. Car starts. Buttoning it all back up. Carpet will remain up to dry. I was aware of the issue with the moonroof drain and thought I’d been keeping it clean. This must have been spilled beer or overflow from the upstairs neighbors...

Inside the skanky harness: all the factory splices were damp with one set of clearly broken wires; one wire splice that broke easily as I manipulated it; a couple more splices that I pulled apart but which look good still. Re-soldering.

Pulled my drivers side carpet up. The insulation is damp and the wire wrap around the wiring harness leading to the computer is damp and skanky looking. Opened the box for the computer- clean and dry inside. Looks like new. Pulling the wiring harness apart looking for bad wires.

On VagCom, address 46 is “Central Conv.” My Vag can’t read this address. Does this indiciate my central conveinence system has an issue?

So if I'm having problems related to the comfort system (no interior lights, no sunroof) but the fuse controlling this (#6 & 14) are both good, can I assume the comfort system computer (under the drivers feet) is the problem? It's broken, and stopping the car from cranking? Yet I get no error...

114,000 miles on a 6 cylinder in a nice dry climate. But I started a new thread here after trying to fix the problem.

2000 Passat Wagon 6 cylinder tiptronic, 114,000 miles. Car won't lock with fob and even with key-in-door occasionally won't activate alarm. This has been an issue for over a year. Yesterday's morning compute ended before it started when the car would not. Would not turn over, no noise...
  8. Passat will not start

I have similar problem - no crank but battery is good. No interior lights, no sunroof BUT fuse 14 (and every other fuse under the dash) is good. I can hear a click from the relays behind the fuse box, but not sure exactly where the sound is coming from. Any suggestions? This is a 2000 Wagon.
  9. Comfort vs Sport Susp -Which do I have?

Sweet! That's just what I needed. Thanks!
  10. Comfort vs Sport Susp -Which do I have?

    B5 Garage
I have a 2000 V6 Wagon. I want to replace the shocks with this kit. Looking to restore original handling - not looking to lower or anything. I'm assuming (with the wagon) that I have the Comfort suspension package. Good assumption? Is there a way to visually tell by looking at the shocks?
  11. Broken ASR is causing marital discord!

    B5 Garage
Just a bit of additional data. I never had this problem again after I repaired the brake system's ECU but.... I had the passenger fnt tire shred on the freeway about 6 mths ago. Still had plenty of tread but was old. Bought 4 new tires from Costso, same place that I had bought the previous...

You read the owner's manual to find out how things work? I read the shop manual to find out how to fix things I break.
  13. Serpentine belt tensioner caused belt to shred?

    B5 Garage
I noticed a piece of my serpentine belt lying in my driveway last night. The entire belt was pretty shredded. The car is a 2000 V6 Station Wagon. On 8/15/08 at 69290 miles I replaced the timing belt, water pump, TB tensioner, hydraulic element idler roller AND the serpentine belt. I did NOT...

Mikel212, my car has the same problem. I posted a request for help a while back, but everyone thought I was nutzo also. I spent several hours searching through the shop manual and experimenting with Vagcom. No luck. Through experimentation, I found there is a programming mode you can enter...
  15. Totally Noobish tire size question - Different size, same rims?

    Wheel and Tire Forum
Thanks all. And when looking at the car again last night I saw that the fine folk at Costco who installed the tires 5 years ago put 195/65 15r in three places but the fourth tire is a 195/60 15r. :thumbdown When I looked at the size 2 days ago I looked at the 60 and assumed they were all...
  16. Totally Noobish tire size question - Different size, same rims?

    Wheel and Tire Forum
Here's the most basic tire question anyone could probably come up with. ;) 2000 Passat V6 station wagon currently has Michelin Energy MXV4 plus 195 60 15r. I believe the stock size is 195 65 15r. Don't know how I got 60s there. Since yesterday the front passenger tire shredded itself...
  17. Timing Belt replacement–FAIL! (if I don’t fix this last thing).

    B5 Garage
Beautiful....thanks. That's exactly what I was hoping for. I took pictures of a lot of the components before I took them apart. Didn't take a picture of the clip switch cuz it seemed so....obvious. Then I broke it! :(
  18. Timing Belt replacement–FAIL! (if I don’t fix this last thing).

    B5 Garage
Spent a long weekend replacing my timing belt, tensioner, pullys, water pump, coolant and doing other odds and ends on my 2000 V6 wagon. While doing so I broke the clip that holds the micro switch on the hood release. This tells your alarm the hood is closed. I got a new clip but can’t figure...
  19. Best source to rent Timing Belt tools?

    B5 Garage
I literally have the rented tools in front of me as I'm shipping them back to Blau today. I found that the timing belt wouldn't go on till I popped off BOTH cam pullys - so a cam gear puller is also recommended (by me). I had to use the Bentley, phatcat write up and the instructions Blau...
  20. Modulemaster for ABS Control Module

    B5 Garage
For me, removing the module wasn't too tough but the electrical connector was stuck on pretty tight for a while. I had Vag commed my car endlessly trying to find the solution to my wife's ASR problem. Never threw any codes but having the module repaired solved my problems and saved my marriage.
