Good job. On the timing belt, at least slide the lock carrier out a few inches. I have smallish hands and it is just too tight to get anything in the front there without moving it out from the front of the engine. You'll want to drain and fill the coolant anyway, might as well pull out far...
  3. 2002 VW Passat Saloon 1.9 130, Where can I get Roof Rails (not rack!)

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
They do not make side rails for the saloon like that of an estate car. You need the roof rack cross bars "base carrier bars" that mount to the drip rails over each door. Any good aftermarket brand will offer a foot and cross-bar package for your car. Thule, Yakima, Rhino rack, etc.

Some auto parts stores carry that brand of coolant. Ravenol, Pentosin, Febi...all the same. You just need to make sure it is specified as G12 or G12+ and fully flush the entire system, including the heater core. I would stay away from anything that does not have that designation. That would...
  10. Gear Selector

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
That could be the problem. check your e-brake adjustment. I've never had a problem with parking on a hilly surface if I set the emergency/parking brake before letting off the brake pedal. Setting the emergency brake before or after putting the trans into park should be no difference. Just...

  14. Question regarding purchase of a 15 or 16 model

    Volkswagen Passat B8 Discussion
I traded mine in before dieselgate. On the DEF cars, it did not make much of a difference, because thery were cleaner due to the after treatment and DPF. The older mkV TDIs did not have DEF treatment and were the most affected by re-calibration.
  15. Control arm installation

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
You want the bushings to be in a neutral state at rest. That said, you need to set them higher up than stock. Best way is to let the springs settle and then jack up the car and set on jack stands. Then jack up the hub until the weight of the car compresses the springs to a point where you end...

  17. Replaced Coolant Temp. Sensor but still p0118?

    B5 Garage
Not the CCM, the ECU; the module that controls engine operation with fueling ans such. The 2 part sensor sends signals to the ECU and the temperature gauge. Two separate sensors in one housing. One part can fail while the other is fine. I've had it both ways on two separate cars. One car...
  18. Replaced Coolant Temp. Sensor but still p0118?

    B5 Garage
The green one at the back feeds the OBD and dash reading is a sensor. The blue one is a switch; not so much a sensor. It is the one in the lower rad hose. It does not report a reading to the ECU but rather energizes one or both wires related to fan speed to the fan controller...
  19. +12 Volt power from the Fuse panel or Relay plate... ?

    B5 Garage
It should be the 75X threaded post on the bottom of the relay panel behind the steering wheel knee bolster. The contacts should be labeled. Test with a multimeter to confirm it turns off with the ignition.
