  1. Are my oxygen sensors all going bad?

    Volkswagen Passat B5 Discussion
A heating circuit code probably means a failed sensor, but it's easy to check. The two same-color leads of the oxygen sensor are the heater leads. They should measure around 10 to 15 ohms between the two wires (unplugged, sensor side). If you don't get that, replace the sensor.
  2. W8 Blowing Cold. Done all the steps? Man please

Etka identifies the bolt as N 105 314 01, screw, csk. with polygon socket hd. M8 x 25. I suspect "polygon socket hd" means Tri-Square, like the bolts that hold the door latches on. The tri-square set I have has three sizes.
  3. On the road...need help with the A/C!

    B5 Garage
The 384 relay can fail, but it's typically cracked solder joints where the large tabs connect to the PC board. Typically, this manifests itself as intermittent A/C. The 384 relay won't be commanded to energize if the low pressure switch is open (to protect the compressor). That sounds like the...
  4. Radio/electrical issues

    B5 Garage
The earlier radios, at least, had a fuse in the back of the radio. Standard auto-type fuse, accessible without removing any covers. It would be worth checking (measure resistance of fuse between its two pins, should be almost zero). Depending on your audio needs/desires, you should also...
  5. Somethings missing from my engine bay, and i dont know what.

I believe automatic transmission cars get the brake vacuum pump, but manual transmission do not.
  6. Tip Stuck in Park - What to do?

    B5 Garage
Eamonn, read the earlier posts. Very likely the brake pedal switch. Are your brake lights coming on? Check the brake pedal switch. If you still need help, post back here, either: 1) the production date of your car (on the VIN sticker in the driver's door), or 2) your engine type (1.8T or V6)...
  7. 2002 4 motion brake booster vacuum pump not working

Which engine does your 2002 have? Automatic transmission? The schematics (in Bentley) are specific to engine and year.

No worries, indeed... electrons are color blind.
  9. EPC and loss of power

ECT sensor is at the rear of the engine near the faux-firewall. The sensor is a known failure point in our cars. I believe the wires run directly from the ECT connector to the ECM connector. (With engine and year Bentley schematics would tell for sure.) First task: check the ECT. It is two...
  10. Horn Trigger wire on Multifunction Wheel - HELP -???

    B5 Garage
I think the OP: 1. Grounded one side of the horn switch in the MFSW 2. Connected the other side of the horn switch to the clockspring connection that's wired to T5/3 In a non-MFSW car, T5/3 is already wired to the horn relay coil, so that should make the horn work. But before tearing in to the...
  11. Horn Trigger wire on Multifunction Wheel - HELP -???

    B5 Garage
Look at Bentley schematics: 35/18 rung 234 for the standard steering wheel 47/1, et al, including 47/2 rung 37 for the multifunction steering wheel The standard wheel horn switch grounds the brown/yellow wire on connector T5 to energize relay J4 (204) to sound the horn. The multifunction...
  12. Ac problems

The relay wouldn't malfunction at low speed and work at highway speed. The rest of my thoughts echo Iowegian's post #4: You should have the A/C refrigerant pressures checked at a competent shop. That will tell most of the story. You might also have a cooling issue, i.e. radiator fans...

A healthy fuel pump should measure less than 10 ohms.

How's the weather? The SAIP only runs after a cold start where the coolant temperature is 85°F or below. It does the self-test, which sets or clears the code, shortly after the cold start. If you can, do a cold start on a cool morning, and drive it gently (e.g. city streets) for a mile or two...
  15. 2000 1.8T no start

Referring to Bentley schematics 35 and 37: The wire is black (no stripe). It begins at Ignition Switch terminal 15 as 4 mm2 (10 AWG). It is spliced in the instrument panel wiring harness to: 2.5 mm2 (12 AWG) wire to Fuses 31 & 5 2.5 mm2 wire to Fuse 32 2.5 mm2 wire to fuse7 0.5 mm2 (20 AWG)...
