I hope my torque converter fails soon- AGAIN, as a trip to my local dealer (which operates, at least people wise, like an Indy!) revealed to me.
When I purchased the beast in Seattle in April of '07 the first thing I did was contact the dealer that originally sold the car to get a warranty history. They were unable to give me the hostory due to "privacy" concerns, as if the car was a medical patient and I was asking them to violate HIPPA privacy laws! I couldn't believe it. So I contacted the indy dealer i purchased the car from to see if they could do anything about this. Of course, i have not heard back from them to this day. Oh well, I thought.
So I just happened to be picking up a part I had ordered through them the other day, and as I was talking to one of the service guys I thought what the heck? maybe he'll pull a history for me. Sure enough his reply was "Of course I can do that. I mean its YOUR car. You ought to know the history of the vehicle, right?" I love this guy. He proceded to print the entire warranty history for me from my VIN.
As he was looking through the report, and we were both agreeing that it would be good for the TC and the cam positioning sensor to fail before extended warranty was up, he noticed the engine had already been pulled twice at seperate times for these two part replacements! TC at 34,000 and cam sensor at 46,000 (I give or take).
I was told the average life span of these two hot items is roughly 35-40k. Here I sit at 78,206.....waiting. Will I be a "lucky" one? Time will tell.
