My B5 passat and some of it's issues

Hey everybody im new here, Just wanna inform anyone who wants to know, i have a new project i want to make my daily or trade or sale maybe. I bought the car for 1250, has about 230k. Kinda fell like I paid a little to much but oh well I guess. It is a 01 passat wagon v6 2.8, thought it had just some minor issues but i was wrong. My main concern to begin was the oil pressure warning, which turned out just to be the high pressure oil sensor. What ive seen on herer apparently the oil pump is very reliable and unlikely to fail, so my first approach was to fix the oil level sensor. Also previous owner bottomed out in the car and jacked up the oil pan and exhaust flex pipes. So ive replaced the oil pan hoping that would help. And when i dropped the pan i found bits that belonged to the cct pads. Figured that out from some research on here. So i replaced those and the seals except for the main cap. I don't believe its leaking. Also did a basic tune up and replaced spark plugs and the coil pack, and put new oil 10w-30 full synthetic, with a mobile 1 oil filter. I read that changing the oil weight can help, or sometimes anything but a vw filter is not good enough i guess? I also have a brake light and abs light and brake warning in my car, and have seen here that it could be the abs module causing an electric problem, im figuring thats the problem. The other thing I have a problem with was the gas mileage, seems that was due to massive vaccum leaks from the crack and broken vaccum lines so i replaced them with new black silicon lines and seemed to help a lot. Also had some bad leaks cause po didn't take care of the car at all and the sunroof drains were clogged up, and the battery tray drains. It was leaking bad before i cut the nips. The ccm seems to work fine still for now but the carpets had to be dried for days. The back window also didnt work but thay was just the little plastic piece that connects the window to the regulator. Also needs new shocks, struts, and pretty much all suspension parts probably. Had 2 new tires but also needs 2 more new tires. Needs a new windshield to pass inspection. Also just spent $320 on 2 new flex pipe sections w/ new cats to fix the broken ones. Sorry if this is a lot, just trying to get myself in on the forum and let people now whats going on with my car and how it progresses. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Mostly wondering if this car is worth all this work and money or not, i really like the b5 v6 wagon its nice but its a lot. But if its in good condition kbb rates it around 3k and I prefer older cars so I rather put money into keeping a car on the road than buying a new one.

You came to the right place! Congrats on your car and I hope it serves you well in the future. My recommendations would be to separate the issues into separate threads and then tackle each one individually. You will probably get some expert advice (and some other advice too) in a day or two so be patient. You can also use the search function to read up on the various issues before hand. Often times, you can find your answers this way but it is also fine to ask again in a new thread. The most common issues on these cars come up again and again so don't feel too bad about asking directly. Do use search though since it will help broaden your knowledge and put things in perspective when your questions get answered.

I din't read your entire post carefully, but I'm sure you will soon learn the importance of the timing belt on these cars. If that hasn't been serviced in the last 60k miles or 8 years, you should probably put that at the top of your to-do list or you may find yourself rebuilding the engine soon. Best of luck and welcome to the forum.

Nothing like a B5 wagon, but a neglected one can be a pita. Hopefully you can sort everything out.

I appreciate the feedback from everyone, i will definitely be using the search bar a lot. Not sure when the last time the timing belt was done but i will have that added to the to do list. I also want vagcom for sure, not positive how much that is but i have a airbag light on so i figure ill need it for that.

That's been my habit for a long time. This was drummed into my head at financial planning seminars, about how much money you waste by buying, or worse, continually leasing new cars. But I make sure to keep nice older cars, not some old Dodge Neon for example.

Check the Ross-Tech website, about $200 I think. I paid $350 or so several years ago, and it has easily repaid that several times over due to the troubleshooting advantages.

I guess the one thing you want to ask yourself, do you like the car enough to spend money on it and keep it?

I was going to point out one my epic rants on how I justify keeping my Passat and not buying a newer car, but naturally I can't find any of my older threads.
    Anyways...

It sounds like you've got a whole array of issues, but I would take it a little at a time. In the whole grand scheme of things I don't think it's that bad.
If you really do like the car and it if it's rust free, I'd consider keeping it.
Based on the stuff I read, you could probably spend in the neighborhood of $1k to $2k and it would be a pretty sweet car. $2k may sound like a lot, but where are you going to find a car for $2k that has the space, comfort, gas mileage and cool factor that a Passat has? That's right, nowhere.
