I'm really hoping it's not too serious. But I have a 2012 Passat SE. About a week ago, my check engine light came on. After restarting the car (I was running an errand), it never came back on. Since then, my car occasionally will jerk when I come to a stop applying the break. If I come to a very gradual stop, it tends not to jerk, only when I come to more sudden stops. Apart from this, the car runs great. No jerking when accelerating. Any thoughts on what this might be? I know I need to take it in, but any insight would be great. Thanks.
Perform those "fast stops" that produce the jerk/clunk with the transmission in Neutral. Shift to neutral while no traffic is around, then stop.
Hopefully (for your wallet's sake) having the automatic transmission in "N" while doing the "fast stop" won't make any difference...OTOH, if the jerk/clunk goes away or otherwise does not occur with the trans in neutral, you may have very early signs of transmission issues.
Obviously, if you're one of the ~3.84% of buyers who opted for a B7 Passat with a manual transmission, it's not a transmission issue.
Had a similar problem. Almost felt like I had gotten tapped from behind after stopping. Turned out to be a dirty MAP sensor. Took me an hour to clean it and haven't had a problem since.
Only reason I figured out what it was is because the check engine light finally came on and I got the code before it went off. That little "surge" after stopping was my only symptom.
Mine does it too. I have never got a code or light on the dash. I wonder if it is a transmission or MAP sensor reprogramming issue.
