My Engine sounds like a Diesel

I have a 2006 Passat with 37,000 mile on it. Its a gasoline engine and I am constantly asked if its a diesel! Is this normal or what kind of repair bill am I looking at? I generally like to do all my own repair work. Thank you for your time.

The 2.0T sound like a sewing machine. I thought the same thing...injectors making the noise though.

Your Focus was not direct injection I believe. The direct injection makes the car sound like a diesel. Here is a thread I started when I got my Passat. I thought the same thing as you.

My 2.0T doesn't sound like my old TDI (ALH motor).

The new Common-Rail motors, wow...impressively quiet.

What I think he means is a lot of clattering noise in the head area of the motor. I walked by a GTI the other day and it sounded just like my motor. You can hear the injectors making noise.

I noticed that last night and was wondering the same thing. Thanks for bringing it up K_Brack -- saved me the trouble of asking!

The best description thus far is it sounds like a sewing maching...well several sewing machines firing away all at once. It was strange to me after I turned in a Lincoln with a quiet V8.

The best way to keep them quiet? Turn the radio up!

Ok, here is a video of your injectors. You will now understand why they sound like they do.
