    That's pretty normal, with time. My 2000 did that; it's far enough along with my 2004 this year to be annoying. And yesterday I traded a 2007 GTi with the same issue. It's always temperature sensitive.

    Your best bet is to stay away from the junked cars for this as they will most likely have the same issue soon. This is where it's better to just get a new display.
