Hello forum, some of you may have read my last threat about my loud turbo.. Heres my scenario and question: (2001 VW passat 1.8t 220k miles)
About 3 weeks ago, i was doing so compartment cleaning and check up, checking oil filters ext. on my truck and VW. When i was putting the vw back together, i lost the upper section of the secondary air hose, so i went to vw to buy another one and it was 120$... so i ziptied a sock to the airbox and the airpump hose until i could get a new one. About a day or 2 after doing this, everytime i built up boost and then shifted i started to hear a more prominant blow off or turbo fart type deal. That slowly progressed into a pretty bad ass turbo spooling sound that was loud as shit. That lasted about a week, that sound slowly turned into a whining sound then a whistle sound. Sounded like a police car siren, RC car, or electric drill. i looked up Audi Dentist drill, and didnt really sound like that, but it does sound bad, and under load i here a screeching sound like a belt slipping, which it could i am running the AC, they could not be related, just figured i would add that. He is my question... I have no CEL, no smoke out the tail pipe, no sudden loss of oil(i burn about 1/2q every 1500 miles), idles smooth as a new car, It just makes a bad sound, i dont like it, and do not want to drive it. THey local VW specialist said it is most likley a bad vacuum hose or presurized hose that has gone bad. Not to say the turbo isnt bad, but it doesnt seem like it is.
Is it quintessence that i messed with the intake and secondary airpump hose and stuff and it is making this sound or is it related?
If it is broken should i have it replaced at the vw specialty shop for 1300 or order Amazon.com: Stigan Turbocharger 847-1001 - New 97-05 Audi A4 Vw Passat 1.8L Turbo - Stigan 847-1001 New: Automotive and attempt todo it my self? is a hard ass job?
