i have a 2001 VW passat 1.8t, and when its cold i can hear the turbo whistle extremly loud and constant from 2-4th gear.... once it warms up the sound turns into a bad ass waste gate/ turbo backfire sound...
Sure sounds cool but doesnt seem right, Doesnt drive any diffrent... same amout of power and fuel econ...
The only thing i can think of is that few weeks ago when i was cleaning the engine compartment, i lost the secondary air hose that attaches the pump to the filter.... until i find a new one.. ziptied a few socks to it to make sure nothing big gets in... its just temporary... this is when i started noticing this sound more often... It has gotten louder and louder. i popped the hood today and notice some retainer clips missing, so im ordering new ones to get that buttoned down good.
Is this sound just being exacerbated through the air filter box not being tightened all the way down, and the lack of hose on the secondary air pump? Or is something wrong with my turbo?
