um, try disconnecting something under the hood. then the CEL will come on and o.k. will go away. on a more serious note, try hitting the reset button on the right multiswitch lever. under the wiper delay.
sorry about that, it was a crude attempt at humor. it was insinuating that if you disconnected ANYTHING under the hood it would cause a fault and cause the CEL to illuminate. this would cause all systems to not be right and in turn shut off the O.K... anyhow on the multi-function lever to the right of the steering wheel (U.S. model) on the bottom of the paddle opposite of the wiper delay sweep lever there is a button (at least on the 2000 GLS model). it is labeled in my car reset. it SHOULD reset the display and hopefully clear your message. if not you could disconnect the battery for about ten minutes and see if that clears it.
See Ross-Tech: Home but since you don't know what it is, I assume you don't have it... It's a scanner with lots of power when it comes to VW and Audi, so you can connect to different modules (like instrument cluster). Try resetting it with the buttons on the right stalk.
While I'm not familiar with this message on the cluster, I can tell you that it is not any normal message which a user could access. It looks like a diagnostic screen that would only be commanded from a console or set by some kind of software embedded check. Try power cycling the instrument cluster by unhooking the battery. If that doesn't work, I'd recommend unplugging the instrument cluster, letting it sit for 10 minutes, then plugging it back in. If those don't clear it, you're looking at some kind of internal fault that needs to be remedied with a VW-grade scan tool.
I'm thinking the exact same thing. It seems to be some message used in factory at the end of a function test or something. I'll tried to use the reset button but that didn't do anything. I will try unplug the battery tomorrow.
Thanks!
Hold down either up or down on the stalk for a few seconds and you should get to the Main Menu where you can close between, Trip Computer, Car Status (where you currently are and messages like please refuel will save to), navigation, as well as screen off.
Use the reset button on the bottom as an enter button
Ok. I have now unhooked the battery for 10 minutes and that seems to have fixed the "O.K. Status"-problem! Thanks!
Though... it seems like the backlight still cut the screen in half some times. Don't know why.
@stianulriksen
I must be slow or something. I clearly haven't read your message properly til now. You are 100% correct!
When I holded the down button on the stalk I have three choices
1. TRIP METER
2. CAR STATUS
3. DISPLAY OFF
When I pressed "2. Car status", guess what the screen changed to? =) "O.K. Status" haha
My friend who borrowed my car just before this happened must have entered this menu and changed the display to "car status".
Ok. I will go strangle him now =)
Ah, the dangers of diagnosing by remote control. It never occurred to anyone here that you might not have tried changing display modes with the button at the end of the stalk. Probably thrown off because most of us have North American Passats, which have very different display options.
The backlight thing is temperature related. It's a known and common problem. As the display ages, it progressively fades from the top, but only in warm temperatures. When it's cold, the display will be back. Normally, you have to replace the cluster, but some service centers (in the USA) will reforbish the cluster with a new display.
