Open rear ashtray and pull out insert.
Lift arm rest to a straight verticle position.
Remove rubber base from storage compartment, then
    unscrew lock nut.
Pull out the beverage holder, then
    unscrew two more lock nuts.
Pull the plastic trim off the PB lever.
Pry off the plastic caps on either side of the console at the very front, then
    unsrew the two phillips screws.
Remove the center console from the parking brake by sliding forward and up from the front.

CAUTION: Be sure after disconnecting the several electrical harness connectors that you pop the fuel tahk flap switch out of the center console then reattach to the harness. Once I didn't do that only to find out miles from home and nearly out of gas that my fuel tank flap opening swith was still in my console back in the garage.

Also, this sequence is for my '99 B5 wit a 12/1998 DOM. I think by late 2000 the procedure changes for MY '01 Passats.

Close, but no cigar. My 2000 ATW 1.8T is a B5. And the gas flap switch is on the driver's door.

    The B5.5 didn't show up until 2001.5.
