I have a 2002 VW Passat 2.0 litre 20v petrol (B5.5 europe)
It is producing the following fault codes.
17698 - Coolant Temp Sensor at Radiator Outlet (G83): Signal too Small
P1290 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
17645 - Fuel Injector for Cylinder 1 (N30): Open Circuit
P1237 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
16685 - Cylinder 1: Misfire Detected
P0301 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded â€“ Intermittent
Car misfires intermittently and the engine emissions light flashes. According to the manual this means the Catalyst Converter is taking damage.
There is no noise or smell just a judder and loss of power. Strangely never happens in the winter but does in the spring, summer months. I think having the Air con on full makes it happen more often, not sure if that means anything.
Rev counter pulses at traffic lights etc (hunting I think its called)
Diagnosis so far;
Full service including spark plug and filter change.
Coolant sensor replaced (apparently there are two though??)
Injector 1 swapped with injector 2 (fault does not move from cylinder 1)
Ignition coil 1 swapped with ignition coil 4 (fault does not move from cylinder 1)
Car assessed by an auto electrician and all cables from injectors to ECU tested ok.
Is there more than one coolant temperature sensor in this model? of so do you think this is causing the misfire and emissions light?
Any help would be appreciated
