    Motor Mount Comparison

Been doing a lot of testing of various motor mounts and came to some neat conclusions. One of which is that Meyle motor mount suck, and that there's a HUGE difference between rates of similar part numbered mounts.

the 382L is the standard passenger side mount used on most 1.8T's.
We carry Corteco strictly, I've seen a lot of people using Meyle as well.. They're cheaper no doubt, here's why.

Corteco has a rate of 967lb/in while Meyle is nearly half at 533lb/in
That's a huge difference for what are supposed to be identical mounts!

Mike, have you done any testing to compare the 034 solid mounts with any of the OE manufacturers?

Comfort and performance are usually at opposite ends of the spectrum. Comfort in this case means the motor is moving around a lot more to absorb or mute what you would feel using a stiffer mount. The performance part of this is that when you drop the hammer it goes, right now, instead of waiting for all the bigger parts to reach the end of ther movement before the wheels start to actually turn...

Motor mounts are designed to keep the motor contained and attached to the vehicle. It's essential to select a mount that's adequate for the power you've got. If your car is stock with no modifications, stick with OEM style mounts.

Upgraded and heavier duty mounts are designed to contain more powerful motors. Used on motors that don't have that extra weight or power, they'll simply cause increased vibrations.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Passat a comfortable family car, and not a race car?

i understand you have in your mind that it is best to let things sit as they are as to not cause any "religious battles" so to speak.

but if you have the test data, could you tell me for sure, is the 034 just simply "better" than the corteco model or is it "holy shit better!" than the corteco?

i really do want to see the data.

Not wanting to start any trouble but just to bring things into perspective note the following line from the OP "We carry Corteco strictly"

I should have clarified, only for this 382L PN. The only 2 available mounts to us are Corteco or Meyle (or genuine audi I suppose, but no one wants to pay that price).
We choose corteco for the quality over Meyle. It's a choice to carry the Corteco over the Meyle, not something forced upon us.
For other mounts we carry Febi, Avon, Vaico, and many others.

Mine's not really a family car either, since I have no family to move in it. It's more of my comfy cruiser.
