    B5.5 V6 Owners

Wondering whether you've had to replace the air box relief valve that is an electrical device that sits on top of the airbox or otherwise known also as purge valve:

Mine is still original at 95K.
Pls state current mileage and status of replacement if applicable

    From My Matinence Spreadsheet:

2/19/2008 52,759 Replace Purge Valve VW 280-142-308 $137.78 Dwight Harrison Volkswagen

I had a P0441 Code, replacing the valve solved it. 2002 GLX Tip

I had to replace it on my 2003 GLX at 70,000 miles. I was getting a PO441 code.

From what I gather, one of the indications this needs replacing is LOW MPG: in four years of being 2nd owner.... higher than avg mpg due to my individual circumstances. Probably best to check it electrically vs just throwing $ at it when the source is elsewhere.

    Any inputs/corrections welcomed.

I ocassionally get a P0441. but it is never a solid failure, Anson - after several starts and drives, the CEL goes away. it has been like that since I got the car with 40k miles on it.

Although this is entitled B5.5 I will allow as the OP an exception to the
so far, lone B5...... Jay because he is a Super Moderator and great guy

Jay, do you actually have that air vent valve pictured above in your B5?

Over the last 18 mos I haven't seen any posts of B5.5 owners laying claim to having the Y thing or suction pump that even KenBlasko with his former '00 V6 have........anybody know the B5.5 equivalent (pls post if possible the EKTA schematic highlighting with a marker! - thanks) as the B5.5 PCV system was "overhauled" maybe lessening? chances of former rampant cam seal issues? as long as the PCV system is adequately maintained.

A side note for those who haven't seen it today: I responded to a post of a small rash of 3-4 PW'ers in Calif w/Catalytic Converter issues (here's a good Primer:
    http://www.aa1car.com/library/converter.htm

that may have some reference here: The same Calif Emissions Inspector/Owner brought to my attention (cause I brought w/me the earlier 4 yr old report when I purchased it) a dramatic improvement in emissions. This is due to not only new spark plugs but moreso probably the application of Seafoam a few days before an oil change; the alternate use of AutoRx to preserve seals; BG Moa (an expensive oil additive to lessen oxidation on top of the total cleanup of the complete air supply system.

I've gotten the P0441 code about 6 times now in the past year since purchase. 2003 V6 B5.5 Variant 61-71k miles. I've had the code cleared 3 times, its gone out 4 times by itself. Will probably buy the purge valve as it's just enough annoyance to warrant getting rid of the CEL...

Oh, and it's also the only CEL that's ever come up...

I'm not sure what you mean by "Y thing" but my 01.5 B5.5 with ATQ definitely has a suction pump.

they got rid of the vacuum suction pump with the intro of the 02 model year, iirc.

Makes sense, even though it's ATQ the stickers show it's compliant with MY2001 emissions standards.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong in this viewpoint:
Best to electrically test your pictured purge valve in the 1st post BEFORE buying. I recall in the last month sonnybk? replaced but did not solve his problem (may be different than yours tho - I don't pay yet any attention to codes since I've not had one CEL since ownership)

    Tks Jay...

I think you are the FIRST one to acknowledge in the last 18 mos on PW that on '02 and later the Y thing (as Pson would state) has been dispensed with.

KenBlasko posted (probably late 2007) the ETKA's on the B5 PCV system and when I compared to the ETKA's for the B5.5 as well as do a close visual inspection I found that the entire PCV system for the B5.5 was redesigned vs the B5.
