Oil change in 05 Passat 1.8 Turbo

    Hello,

What is a good oil to usde in the 1.8T gas motor?
I am assuming the 1.8 Turbo gas engine is using a synthetic oil. Right?

My brother and sister in law just purchased a new 1.8T Passat and I would like to help my brother learn how to change his own oil.

I do have a 2005 Passat TDI and I am somewhat famaliar with the Passat.
I am using the Motul 505.01 synthetic oil in the TDI.

I am not famaliar with the gas 1.8T motor and I could use a point in the right direction on choosing the correct oil and any other advice as to possible upgrades and maitenance issues that you folks have experienced with the 1.8T engine.

I was already planning on getting someone to Vag Com the car to change the transmission over to Sport mode and to shut off the seatbelt reminder chime.

Any advice is appreciated, especially on the oil reccomendations?

    Thanks in advance,
    Deming

On an unrelated note - what's up in EV, IL? I used to live on Gaffield, not far from the intersection of Ridge and Noyes.

Beautiful campus there, too. Nice to walk on the Rocks at night.

    Motor Oil for 1.8T

Thanks for the advice on the motor oil for the 1.8T.

Not too much happening in Evanston (North Shore) these days.
Northwestern University is adding the new Ford Motor Company Engineering school at Nothwestern and the developers are continuing to have a hey day building and developing downtown Evanston with $650,000 condo/townhouses.

Most of my time is split between Northern Wisconsin (Door County) and my farm near Iowa this time of the year. I have never really considered myself a resident of the snooty North Shore.

Perhaps I can find someone near Rockford to VAg my brothers new Passat.
Eventually I hope to buy the Ross Tech software and a cable of my own so that I can diagnose and change codes on his 1.8T and my TDI Passat.

Which motor oil are you using? Motul, Elf or Castrol?

    Thanks

Mobil 1 0W-40 will offer the most protection, bar none.

I apologize, as this has probably been brought up more than a zillion times, but... I'm wondering why... almost all the oils listed are 5W40, but Mobil1 in that viscosity isn't accepted??
