Default HOW TO: Remove Single DIN Stereo and Everything Else in that Console

It's really easy, you only need one picture.
All the tools you need is a #20 Hex Star and a thin screwdriver. The bezel that fills in around the climate controls (greenish) pops off. Behind it is 4 screws. Underneath the radio in the "mini-cargo" area as another 2 screws. Take the 4 screws (magenta) and it will pull out. Behind the climate controls 2 screws don't need to be removed.

you must have an early model b5. in any event, you'll need the radio removal tool if you want to remove the radio alone.

I tried inserting a removal tool into the radio an it would not fit up top. The clips for the stereo are on the side toward the bottom.

You need two tools to remove a double DIN and four for the single DIN. Also, the tools for the single and double are dfferent.

Don't be cheap and do it this way. I have seen HUs ruined using it. Spend the $15 and do it right. You will make a lot of friends loaning out your removal tools.

i've removed my radio at least a half dozen times with no problems using the tool. you shouldn't have any problems if you use it correctly.

So it worked for you. There has already been another post today where it didn't work and he had to take the car to the dealer. Use the right tools
