An electrical cause may could potentially lead to a problem like this. However, the article says its the cooling fan that caused the leak when it damaged the line for the auto tranny fluid, which is considered a flammable fluid.
"Flammable automatic-transmission fluid may be ignited by hot surfaces within the engine compartment, resulting in a vehicle fire." (Edmunds, 2009) "the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it has opened a preliminary evaluation to look into allegations that the engine coolant fan cut an automatic transmission fluid line in the car, resulting in the risk of an engine compartment fire or vehicle disablement." (Edmunds, 2009) |
