    on-star phone connect

just bought a 2004 passat glx. it has onstar built in. i was playing with it today and was wondering if it is possible to connect my cell phone to this system since it has voice commands and all that. My friend has a ford edge with my touch and it picks up his phone when he sits in the car and can use his phone through voice commands. this may be a really stupid question but i figured i'd ask, who knows whats possible.

    thanks

Short answer, no. It's be easier to do a hideaway handsfree kit with a radio.

Plus That Onstar no longer works due to the digital changeover

    Welcome HChampagne.

I too have an '04 GLX with analog/obsolete OnStar.

I have read a couple of boards where the mic, switches and Monsoon speakers were re-used with a Motorola hands-free bluetooth interface (HF850?), but it is not for the average DIY because it requires modding the Moto unit to reduce the speaker output to line-out level so it will work with Monsoon amp. I was all psyched to do it (I get a little jazzed doing geeky electronics stuff like that) but then I learned that the moto handsfree kit was not yet compatible with my Droid X.

    Frack.

    There's also BlueStar.

OnStar Bluetooth 2.1 Conversion GB Feeler

OK, HChampagne's original post reignited a quest for me, and I have good news. I have posted a GB feeler for a BlueStar 2010 module and adapter for VW to get the utility back from your OnStar control pad, microphones and audio interfaces with your cars installed equipment.

    Check it out here.

If you are interested, please PM me or post on GB Feeler thread.

    Bloomer-

I may be interested in this. Either that, or I'm gonna remove the unit from the car- then I get the space back for the first aid kit!

I had a 2002 Passat that didn't have the onstar, and the fm radio reception was far better than my 2004 with this ugly hockey puck on the roof.

If it can be made functional, it may be worth keeping. At this point, until I stumbled onto your post, I was going to order a new base and mast from AntennaMastsRus. As it is, I'll just order the replacement mast and hold on the base for now.

    Thanks! -Matt

I'll add you to the interested list. Following up with Costar today, I expect to have a working unit very soon, this week I hope!
