I have a 2001 1.8t black wagon with 40,000 miles. Runs great and the wife loves it.
However I got a letter from VW Saturday with an interesting offer. They say they will give me the full NADA msrp value for my car against any new VW (not TDi or W8 ). 0% financing for 60 months is available aswell.
I looked up my car on nada.com and the average retail price is:
$16,875. Is the "consumer" NADA pricing different to the dealer NADA numbers?
I owe just under 13k on the loan, but we also bought an extended warranty that we can cash in for around $700 or $800.
MSRP for a 4motion 1.8t with leather and wood is:
$29860
With the incentives listed above, do you think I could get the MSRP down a couple of grand?
I guess it is a good deal only if you can also get some of the other incentives out there. I believe Passat incentives are $1500-$3000 factory to dealer. If they don't give you that, then you are effectively trading in your car at MSRP less the incentive.
I just bought 04.5 1.8T 4motion tip wagon for about $4k off of MSRP, but I had to give up the 0.9% financing that was otherwise available.

B5in, funny you should say that, Team VW sent me the letter. Did you buy form them in the past?
ny1911, can you tell me what the msrp was on your car, does it have leather and a sunroof?
I will only buy a new one if I can get a really good deal, i had no interest in changing cars until I got the letter. If I can keep around the same payment and get into a new car it would be worth it though.
Zackb911,
I think this is a dealership thing. I contacted several other dealers in Illinois and none of them had heard of it.
One guy said the following:
"As far as the nada offer, I checked with vw and there is no national program that resembles what you had stated. I think it's a dealership marketing a sales event or something that uses keywords like that to get your attention. If you don't mind, could you fax me a copy to ......., I would like to take a look at the ad. "
I always see people talking about the VW incentives and offers, but I never get anything in the mail. I have recieved things from them in the past......about several years ago. I have not moved from this address. I wonder why I have not recieved "recall notices", or "incentive" program offers?
Hi johnjack11 - I live in South Bend too! Dont go to "GL" on Grape/Edison - they suck. I got the flyer from the Merrillville IN dealership too - sure looks like a VW thing with the way they did the add but you never know. Pretty tempting but both my Passats are paid for so Im good! 8)
BTW - where do you take your VW for service? Ive had "less than satisfactory" service from GL.
Hey Matt,
the offer is not from VW and is not all is it made out to be either, they give you the financing but hold back the incentives, so it is not that good a deal. I may hold off for a while.
I change the oil myself, friend of mine has a lift which makes it even easier. I am not that handy but most of the maintenance items can be done yourself if you take your time. All the filters, the plugs and the bulbs etc. I may have GL check the timing belt but I don't really trust them for anything else.
I received the "100% NADA value reimbursement" offer from Team VW/Audi also. This wasn't appropriate to my situation though, as the provision for mileage deduction ($0.20 per mile) resulted in a negative trade-in value for my Passat (which has 92,760 mi. on the odometer). :weirdo:
Not that I'd trade it in anyway, as it continues to hold up quite well.
The folks at Team VW/Audi are great though. No sales pressure; they let me test drive a W8 6-spd and an R32, and gave me a cordless powered screwdriver kit just for visiting. Team's service department was commendable for warranty work and their location off US 30 east of I-65 is convenient for me, as I head up to Chicago from Indianapolis fairly often.
