Curb rash and can I fix it?

Well 5 years after owning my Passat I finally did it!!...... I hit a curb! I am still not sure how I did it, but when I was turning my car into the parking lot I scrapped over a curb and when I got out I noticed about a 6 inch curb rash on my rim. I was so angry at myself. Anyway, would it be more practical to send it away to get fixed, or to just live with it? I have heard people in the past talk about certain places you can send the rims to, but I did not really pay too much attention the posts. TIA

Is the rash on say the spoke or the outside edge? I had curb rash on the outside edge about 4" in length fixed. what they did was hone(sp?) it done just so it was not visible...it was on the bottom of the edge of the wheel. It cost me $60 at a local tire place. If you curbed on say one of your spokes I guess it all depends on how deep the scratch is if it will work or not. I will say it is possible depending on WHERE the rash is and how DEEP it is.
Hope that helped

Thank you for the reply! The damage was done on the edge of the rim! So, if I went to a local Tire shop they might be able to fix it or make it less visable? I would be happy to eliminate the "eye-sore" it is now displaying. Again, thank you.

No prob...they should just hone it down a bit like mine and say bye bye to that unsightly distraction 8)
