    How To Replace Dipstick Tube

I did this over the weekend and thought I would take some pictures. Was a pretty easy job. Took about 15 minutes. I didn't see any write up. I know it is about as easy as it gets but I decided to write it up anyhow.

First Remove engine Cover. Find out some way to keep the two prongs in the picture unlocked. I was able to jam a used fuel injector ring to keep it released. I am sure there are many things that would accomplish this. Tin foil would probably work as well.

After you have the two prongs held open you can take some paper towel and layer it. Sort of jam the paper towel in the hole so if parts of it break off they don't fall in. Then grab the paper towel and dipstick tube with pliers and pull straight up. The tube should come right off.

this is what i was left with.

Let me know if this works for anyone.

That works OK if you have that much of the tube left, but in my case, the danged thing was very brittle. It wound up breaking off right at the engine block!

I'm thinking about making this a regular maintenance item -- replace every 2-3 years or so, whether it needs it or not!

yeah, mine went 7 years and was still in decent shape. A little brittle. I live in chicago so it dealt with the elements as well.
