How To Remove The Gear Stick Gaiter

I own a B5.5 2002 2.0 SE the Gaiter around to gear stick is cracked and looks an eye sore so I bought a new one from Mr Gaiter on Ebay and I'm really struggling to fit it. I first uncliped the plastic trim around the base to reveal the underneath of the gear knob and just cannot see how it comes off.

Like as been posted above, on a B5.5 the knob is held on by a crimped clip.
Lift the gaiter to see it.
Use a large screwdriver it expand the crimped bit carefully and you can reuse it.

I carefully unpicked thread on the gaitor enough to get it over the gearknob and re-sewed with a fine needle I found this less hastle it was a bit fiddly to get it back in the plastic clip but it now looks great
