Disc Changer on 2001.5 Passat GLX

So I've had my 2001.5 Passat for 4 months now and a fraternity brother of mine was checking out the trunk. He discovered a 6-disc CD changer in the back (I had seen the device to hold it in, however I assumed that it was empty - something stock that came w/Passats - guess that proves it's wrong to assume).

    Anyways, the problem is this:
The device is blocked in so that none of the magazines can pull out. The back has the wires exposed and the only other open end is towards the inside wall. Since it is bolted in, we have no way of pulling out the magazines.

Any suggestions on what to do? I'm not sure if this is a "VW-brand" disc changer - I bought the car used. Any help would be appreciated, either by posting on here or via email: j.w.cunningham@iup.edu

The stock CD changer has a big, fabric-covered door in front of it that folds down (part of the trunk itself), then a little sliding door on the front of the changer itself, then an Eject button behind the sliding door that, when held for a couple of seconds, causes a 6-disc magazine to pop out. If yours doesn't work this way, it's probably not stock.
