I just realized that the key for the factory GLX wheel lock nuts mysteriously disappeared from inside my car. I called the dealership to see if they could order another key. They said they need a code that's either printed inside my owner's manual or one that's stamped on the wheel nuts (took them a week to figure that one out) -- I couldn't find anything in the owner's manual and I couldn't see anything stamped on the lock nuts.

I'll be taking it to the dealership first thing in the morning so that they could find out the code to order it. Does anyone know another way of finding the key code?
Thanks!

Alan, not sure how your locks look, but mine are just a simple multiple star look...does not look to be anything custom about it. I will look for key code here in a minute just to make sure.

Alan, here is a shot of my locking nut and the lock that came stock on the car. Are these what you are talking about?

Yup, that's what it looks like.
According to the service department there's 16 different variations/codes of the star pattern for the VW OEM locks.

Thanks for your help, Jay!

Inside the top on the lock...there is stamped "ABC" and "4" but that is all I can see.

Explains how those dumbasses strip them... doesn't it.

You know though, either that statement is false, or I hit a 16% chance. Because my lock works on my GF's 01 Jetta locks http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emcrook.gif

Alan-

Do your wheels have a ball seat like the OEM wheels? My RKs have a tapered seat. Just curious....

It was nice to meet you at the GTG BTW.

There are only about 15 different wheel locks - why can't the dealer just try the different ones until they get the correct match? I had this problem and this is what my dealer did. Also, I got the wheel lock key for free. It was their mistake to not include the lock key as part of dealer preparation of the car.

Not sure what kind of seat I have. It was nice meeting you and your Utah gang -- that was great beer you brought over http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/embeer.gif http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif

The key for the wheel lock nuts was included with my car when it was delivered. Just recently it went missing.

did you check the secret compartment in the black bag where the screwdriver is stored and everywhere around there?

I'm pretty sure the dealer lost it and all though.

Sorry to hear that.

Are these only on the GLX or does the GLS also have wheel locks? Thanks.

Actually, GLS with alloys (luxury package) comes standard with wheel locks.

I believe Luxury package is now standard on GLS models, and optional for the new GL that is coming out.

Count the number of splines, and you can order what you need. (ref: TSB 44-00-01)
OEM Wheel Lock P/N 8D0 601 139F plus three digit code

10 splines = 000, 11 splines = 001, 13 splines = 002 ... 17 = 006, 19=007...21 splines = 009

12 and 18 splines not used for obvious reasons.

I would be very surprised if anyone had this information recorded by the dealer.

edit - changed 13 spline code from 003 to 002

Thanks GH, I wish I had that info earlier.
I went to the dealership this morning (what a mad house), and one of the service advisors came out with a case of more than a dozen wheel nut keys.
I told the advisor that I was on my way to work and didn't have much time to hang around and aked if I could help out to find the key that fits. To my luck, the first key I picked out of the case fits my wheel locks perfectly!!!
My jey is a 000 (10 splines).

The key is now on order which they should have it by next week (the time I bring my car in for my 20k service). I also picked up a can of tire inflator just for piece of mind. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif

Where should the wheel lock be in the car? Is it factory supplied or should the dealer have given it to me when I purchased my car? Thanks.

It should be with your tool kit, the little black package that has the lug wrench and other stuff. There is a little velcro pocket that has it secured in the kit. If it is not there, then it was either lost or never there originally. But I thought the took kits come complete from the factory with the car, not part of the dealer prep...could be wrong on that though.
