I heard that in Europe you have the option of having the 6 disc cnager installed in the trunk, or in the single din part of the center arm rest. Would I just pull the wire thats already in the trunk and bring it to the front??? (I have a B5.5). Also I know the older single din Monsoon has this other type of in dash 6 disc changer, also Is this compatable with the new double din monsoon?
This is where im thinking of mounting it.

INVALID TOPIC! I've never been in the discussion, but I'd think that it's not deep enough for a full euro-din sized unit...the changer should be smaller, but taller...

It wasn't invalid when I posted it. You are right, it is about 1/16th of an inch too shallow for an in-dash changer. The armrest rests on the buttons of the changer.

That's a very clean look. I wonder if anyone has ever installed their DVD player in that location? I'd like to add something like that to my Passat at some point and have never been thrilled with the location options. This would be awesome!

Wow! this MUST go on the mod list.
Ok, do you have other pictures of the installation, and maybe even some directions to help us along?

Unfortunately this CD changer will not work with the stock North American Double Din system. The plug on the back of the radio does not match the plug on the end of the changer. The reason I was able to do this install was because I installed a Euro navigation headunit, which is the old style wiring plug. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it would be some work to attain.
Here are the photos of what I went through for the install.

Thanks for the info...and very nice work!
Hmmm. There must be a way to rewire the connector from the changer to the new format on the back of the double DIN radio...unless the new HU communicates differently with the new changers...
Anyone know the answer to this?

In theory you could buy the Blaupunkt extension cable, cut the end off of it, buy a second cd-changer cable (trunk to headunit - the current cable is there to stay, don't want to mess w/ that do you?)- cut the end off that, then splice them together w/ possibly solder or butt connectors. http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/xyxnervous.gif
The blue connector is the CD Changer Control

This is the connector to the Single Din in dash Changer- the black is the extension cable (needed to run from the armrest to the headunit)

From what Nic has told me this mod is not compatable with the DD Monsoon radio. Only the single din version or the GSM Navi unit. It's possible to retrofit the connector to make it work with the DD Monsoon but that would require cuting, splicing and relocating wires...No thanks! LOL http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/frown.gif

Thanks everyone! To answer the question about vertical playing - No, I have not had any problems...this player was designed to be placed vertical as well as horizontal. In order to run the cable I had to partially remove the center console and run the Blaupunkt extension cord up to the headunit. The actual power line for the changer was too short so I had to extend that with just some 16ga. wire. It would be possible to adapt to a Double Din headunit but its not something I would want to do. You would have to cut the plug end from the existing wiring harness and I just would not pull myself to do that in my car. Another option would be to order a new plug and pins from your dealer so you would not have to cut. Hope you have a good relationship with your parts manager because they never like looking for stuff like that! http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/crazy.gif Thanks again everyone.

I have a question! It seems like the connector plug of the CD-changer is Blaupunkt standard... Will it work with a Blaupunkt stereo?? I have Blaupunkt Alicante CD-31!
