Son of a... they're here. They're finally friggin' here! I will make myself post again once they're wrapped and ready to go in the morning mail
.
.
.
Okay, they're all wrapped and sitting by the door to begin their journey to each of you. Check the last of the shots in my VW mirrors WebShots folder... hopefully that puts a smile on some faces. http://community.webshots.com/user/scotaku
I'll say what you're all thinking. This took too friggin' long.
I agree. I'd trade posts with people who are upset, but I don't think they'd be made any happier than when packages arrive later this week. I ask for understanding that, for lack of a better expression, siht happens. All my first checks were lost. Mike had his job to do. It added up to time spent waiting; ironically the thing I most wanted to avoid. I've got some credibility to earn back from you guys so I hope your seeing this is a start to that process.

For Dalip's sake, there is no new news to report since the email on the 21st. To recap:
I expect the glass parts any day and will send them out to the just-glass buyers the following morning. There will be a post here when that happens as well as individual emails to those buyers to alert them of the mail carrier's precious cargo.
Mike is to follow up with the tuning shop this weekend to confirm that the in.pro parts will arrive within the three to four week window they said they needed (to expire on/about May 10th). Any significant delay beyond that and the order is canned. By significant I mean Monday or Tuesday is okay, Friday the 17th is not. The shop understands they will lose this sale if they haven't been upfront in how much time they needed.
I am confident the tuner will come through. I expect those parts will ship soon after they arrive at the shop and then be broken down into individual orders once they get to me. Same deal; they'll be in the morning mail, a post to the thread with the news, and individual emails will ring like bells to Pavlovian dogs. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmilep.gif
If we have to cancel the in.pros, all monies will be returned including any fees PayPal sapped us for. I'd rather pay you guys back and eat the fees myself than wait any longer. My reputation means more to me than chrome mirror covers. In that event there will also be an announcement on the thread, individual emails, and refunds returned via the same media they were paid.
I've tried to be prepared for any eventual outcome bad or good and think I've got the bases well covered. As always, if anyone needs a refund there will be no questions asked.
[EDIT] I'm going to be meeting jwil and FlyinVR6 this Sunday at the Club H2O Detailing Workshop up in Long Island. There's a thread on the Events/Gatherings forum... If anyone else would like to hook up, particularly from this buy, I'd really enjoy meeting some of you!

Minor news... I got my signature return receipt back in the mail yesterday. I was a little concerned that it seemed to have taken so long but now I know for sure that the check is there.
I've got a prior commitment to a scavenger hunt rally being hosted by the Porsche Club on the 19th. Otherwise, Highpoint sounds fun too. Who's going to Waterfest?

I am not pleased to be sending this update this evening.
I've received word back from Mike (who's been on a two week duty in Czechoslovakia) that the tuner can't fill out order for the in.pros until the week of the 20-26th; two full weeks beyond his original two to four week promise.
I'll be on vacation the week following... I cannot tolerate any further delay while your money is out of your hands. I've instructed Mike to cancel the in.pros and to tell the tuner he's lost the sale because he was not honest/realistic in his estimation of delivery. I've also asked Mike to send a check back to me which I will be funding refunds from as soon as possible.
The mirror glass will be delivered as soon as possible. They should be in the tomorrow's mail now that Mike is back in Germany.
I know this is not the news people want to read. As before, my reputation means more to me than mere chrome mirror covers. Each of you who ordered the in.pros will receive full refunds regardless of any PayPal fee you may have had to accept to send me your payments. I feel that is the only respectable response having made you wait so long.

Um why don't you wait a bit and see if ppl want to wait for these? Perhaps some people will want to jump in on this buy and can fill in the spots for the people who want to back out. I would at least give the participants the option of still getting these mirror covers at a heavily discounted price.

The trouble with waiting is that I'll be on vacation starting the 28th. Even if I believe the tuner will come through after another delay, I won't be able to send anything out until June 5th at the very earliest. I'm already nervous with the amount of cash that has changed hands. Remember, Mike has to pick the stuff up and then send it off to me before it gets to you.
I'm willing to put this back to the tuner and insist he's got one more week (to meet his original date). Beyond that, I would sincerely prefer to send you guys your money and be done with it. I'd rather not have this group buy go down in history as another custom emblem, Mann filter, Chinese headlight buy. I'll have Mike hold off for now until more people chime in.
[EDIT] I've asked Mike to rign in on the subject as he's been the one going toe to toe with the tuner (say that five times fast!). The tuner said two to four weeks and now wants another three weeks... for that extra wait I think he should ship to for free. We have to push back or follow through with bagging the order. Even if he ships for free on the 26th, I'll be on vacation May 28th through June 4th.
At some point, this has to come to a close, good or bad. Even though I'm against a longer wait, the 26th has to be the absolute last day. It's simply a matter of the tuner being up front when he says he can fill an order... it's already looking like he was telling stories when he said May 10th. We've already ponied up the cash. The tuner needs to do something to show he's serious about completing the sale.
Since Mike was away, the glass pieces have not shipped. Mike says he's picking them up today and will be sending them out. I'll ask himfor a tracking number if he's able to send them that way so I can anticipate them at home.

I appreciate your predicament. I really want the covers for my ride and at the price we’ve been promised by the tuner, am willing to wait for a while longer. That said, a good deal should not come at the expense of good, honest service. I guess there may be cultural differences in the way we see business transactions, but it seems like these folks should at least provide some additional break for the missed delivery date. This is a sizeable order, and from the some of the posts I’ve seen on the board here, could be repeated in the not too distant future if the supplier proves credible.
You guys have both acted in good faith, kept all of us well informed and earned my trust. However, if you are uncomfortable with any of this, it’s not right for me to impose on you simply so I can save a few bucks. Your carma http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/wink.gif is good with me, so do what’s right for you.
I’m on vacation myself the week of June 10th, and from my prospective the money’s already spent, so I’m quite happy to let you sit on my small slice of the cash for the time being while we see how this plays out.
Once again, thank you both very much for the effort you’ve put into this.

I don't mind the wait if you don't mind the wait. That said, what's another couple weeks, for me, the moneys spent, so its no rush. As long as they are able to provide them before the big huge, I can wait.
And again, Sco, thanks for putting this together. If you don't want to wait, I will understand. You have been up front and honest for the entire group buy, wish I could say the same for that tuner who would be providing us the parts. And again I am willing to wait.
OT: Sco, are you or anyone else from the Baltimore area comming to the big huge?

Damn suppliers is right! I deal with automotive suppliers all day long and you always need to multiply what they tell you by 6. "Sure, we'll have your parts for you in 2 hours" translation 12 hours It's the same all over the world. I'm not suprised and I'll wait as well. I forgot about the money too so it's no big deal, as long as i have it by waterfest.
Thanks again for being so upfront about this Sco. It is greatly appreciated. http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/biglaugh.gif

I can wait too....but I agree that the end of May should be the drop-dead date!
Hey John, I don't have a problem with the wait either. Personally, given the price we are paying for these parts, I'll wait as long as it takes. But I think that your date of the 26th is fair. Are there any other tuners that could supply the parts at the same price?
Scotaku
05-07-2002, 12:31 AM
Alright, alright... I will wait along with those who've said they are willing too.
As always, anyone who does not want to wait may request a full refund, no questions asked.
I'll ask in advance that anyone who didn't get in on the original buy not email me asking to slide into any positions that have been backed out of. If I end up with extra parts, I will post them in the Classifieds forum after I've got them and there is no question on where they might be. http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/angel.gif
You guys have bowled me over with your support. When I got the word last evening, I almost swallowed my own teeth. I believe upfront communication is key to making a group buy work, even if it doesn't pan out on the end... the examples I gave all seemed to be marked by a disappearance of the guy starting the buy. I'm not going to let that happen no matter what the outcome.

Hey Scott,
I understand your predicament and understand your reputation is worth more than some nice mirrors--granted they are very nice mirrors. However, noone will slam you because you have been straightforward and very upfront with all your dealings. I hope every group buy I participate in goes as well as this one or is as orchestrated as well-sure maybe we wont get the covers but I can never say I was out of the loop or I was sent for a ride. I am willing to wait for the mirrors and whenever you want to pull out of the deal, Its okay by me, Thanks for all your hard work. Thanks to Mike as well

<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:<HR>Happy news! I spoke with Mike last night who is home again and has picked up our mirrors! They are in the mail to me even as I type! http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/biglaugh.gif There will be a posting here and individual emails to all those who ordered glass. (sigh)
More news... 'seems it was not the tuner yanking our cord, but in.pro themselves. Mike assured me he showed the tuner our cash and heard him on the phone placing the order; even heard him get the quanities and sizes correct. It was in.pro who issued the first delivery date and then the later date we're now waiting on when Mike went back to confirm.
That kinda explains why the parts are backordered through the retailers here in the 'States... in.pro is backed up delivering them to the retailers all over. It is in.pro that says the week of the 20-26th. Having this knowledge makes me more willing to wait, but again not too long.
Thanks again to all you guys for your patience. I'm writing a memoir of the experience!

I expect the mirror glass any/every day this week. I've got spare cardboard and tape waiting to protect and repack each of the orders as well as shipping labels ready to roll. I won't be certain but I think these will slip in under the USPS 3lb first class for $3.50 rule... I hope I didn't just jinx us!
We're one day into in.pro's promised delivery week. Hopefully Mike will be getting a call from the tuner to come get our parts! Those will almost certainly burst the 3lb rule but I'll try to get a rough postage cost from the USPS when the glass packages go out. Maybe I'll pop mine off for practice and have them weighed in advance?
I drifted through the Audi dealership this morning picking up a new TT DV... they had an S6 Avant on the lot. The polished mirrors really look spectacular!

So Sco, are the left hand units wide angle like our stock right hand ones (...closer than they appear), or are they the combo flat with wide angle on the outside edge?
Honestly I may bag on the glass, I really wanted the blue. If I do however, I do NOT want you to send me a refund until you've been reimbursed and I also expect you to deduct whatever handeling charges you've incurred. I've got to keep my karma right, so you can't absorb any out of pocket expenses on my behalf.

Part numbers:
1J1857521C (drivers side)
1J2857522C (175mm passengers side)
The are Audi parts, not VW, but they fit our cars. I don't have a part number for the smaller passengers side mirror. These are OE blue tinted, split aspherical, glass pieces. HTH.

The left-hand pieces are indeed the wide-angle ones like this: (thanks in advance, stragazer)
http://www.b5glx.com/ver2/IMAGES/aspherical.jpg
I'm going to triple-check the part numbers having seen stargazer's citation...
The right-hand pieces are plain with a light smoked tint to them just like the left side. I'll have to compare them to the original mirror on my car to see if they zoom the reflected image... I forgot to comment that they do not have the "Objects in mirror..." printed on them, large or small.
I'll take some pics this afternoon and add them to this thread.
I'm in the same position like bulliboy. I really wanted the blue tinted, too. http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/cry.gif
I really hate to ask for a refund after all your trouble to setup this GB. Is there any other way to fix the problem?

For bulliboy and eiki, I realize I didn't really answer you guys directly... my apologies...
If Mike gets word from the dealer that they won't exchange the glass, I'll eat them for you since they're not what you want. Same goes for anyone else who really prefers the blue ones too. Not sure what I'll do with 'em (credit at the VW Parts counter http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/angel.gif ?) but I won't make you guys take 'em when they aren't what you were expecting.
Having taken pics of the glass side by side, the smoke tinting is very very light... almost matches the original glass. You can see the color of my interior reflected in each of them (nice and sunny today) and there is little to no reduction in the glare. Kinda emphasizes my wish for the blue ones!

I feel ya, guys... Mike knows the wall I'm up against and will get to the dealer asap. Best case scenario is I return the glass today or tomorrow while the post office is open and we get them exchanged while I'm away on vacation. Next best, I repackage them and have my neighbor send it out Tuesday after I've left. (Monday is a holiday and my flight is at 0830 on Tuesday!)
Worst case is already in effect: if the dealer won't exchange the glass, you'll be seeing me on eBay! http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/wink.gif I won't force any of you to take these glasses when you really wanted the blue ones and refunds will be issued right away. -If- it comes to that, you'll each have the option of taking the ones we got or I'll buy 'em off you. Just keep sending those good vibes east towards Germany!
I'm leaving word with my postal carrier and my neighbor that I expect some big cartons soon with the in.pros inside and probably while I'm away. She's a really cool lady... I'm sure she can help us out and have them set aside or delivered to my upstairs buddy. With my luck my PlayStation 2 Linux kit will arrive while I'm gone too! http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/crazy.gif

Dont get me wrong I appreciate all that ur doing, and i bet this turned out to a bigger hastle then u expected....I personally dont care if it has the blue tint or not, but I will appreciate it if u exchange what passanger mirrors you have so we can get aspherical mirrors on the passanger side aswell. If this is not possible and all you have is aspherical driver side and normal passanger side then I dont want to hastle u even more by buying it from me, after all u didnt know that this is going to happen. So i'll just take the mirrors and u keep my money. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif

Yea, if it's a choice between my takin' delivery of these mirrors and Sco eating the costs, I'll take the glass. I'm sure I can move them localy somewhere. I'm more concerned about this not turning sour for the guys who've done all the work on it than I am about a few bucks. Really, the glass was secondary for me, it's the covers I'm really waiting for, so what the hell, I can still put a cool euro driver side mirror on.
John, Mike - now for the "can ya feel the love" post script. Thanks.

So as a clarification for me. These mirrors are not blue at all, but they are a light smoke tint. With the Driver side being the only aspherical mirror while the Passenge side is the plain one?

Yep... that's about the size of it. [/Mary Poppins]
Hopefully Mike's dealer is a good sport about it and will exchange them though I'll have to mail them back. We've got the specific part numbers for the blue, wide-angle mirrors now which should help a great deal... I wish I'd known that beforehand but I chalk it up to another learning experience such as the PayPal fees.
Kent et al, don't worry about me getting soaked for the wrong mirrors. I would not have started this buy (or cut it off when I did) if I could not afford to purchase all of the parts myself and then resell them. There was an upper limit I really didn't think we'd reach but that was dictated by my ability to pay for and comfort level in ordering so many pieces. I originally thought it might be tough to get 10 people interested!
When the cieling was shattered, I cut the orders off... but it was all within limits that wouldn't bankrupt me! I had you guys prepay soon after so that we could order in confidence and weed out the wannabes. To my delight, all but one payment was made and that one order got burn-bagged. Two orders have since been rotated to other buyers because guys needed their money back. Those were refunded immediately and, with no complaints, I think those guys were kept happy. That's my goal: keep you guys happy!

Sounds good for me. I personally would like a driver and passenger blue, wide-angle mirrors as I currently have the blue Jetta mirrors on my car.
Do you have an ETA on when they can get exchanged and have the new parts shipped out to you?

(fingers crossed) Mike is a good six hours ahead of me on the east coast. I'm hoping he's had time to visit/call the dealership and request an exchange. If they're ok with it and Mike can get me word later today or before the postoffice closes tomorrow, the wrong ones will be in the mail back to Germany.
If that comes to pass, my thoughts are that they'll arrive, be exchanged, and the blue ones will be sent back to me all while I'm away in Mexico. It all hinges on the dealer's level of coolness after the sale...
<BLOCKQUOTE>quote:<HR>Thanks for the hard work on this! We do appreciate it. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I appreciate you guys being so supportive and patient through the process. We've crossed some real rivers over the course of this buy... you guys deserve some credit to for keeping it alive when I thought the obstacles and the waiting were too much. I think it's paying off though!

Wlp, it's Sunday and no word from Mike yet. I will box up the mirrors and address the package back to Mike -just-in-case-... If I do get word, I'll have my neighbor send the box back on Tuesday when the post office opens again.
Again, if we can't exchange them, I'll give you guys the option of accepting what we got or a full refund; I won't make you take them off my hands. Check the link to the pics I put in the opening post of the thread to see what they look like compared to stock... very similar tinting.
There will be Internet access on the island I'm visiting (but you still can't drink the water!). I'll try to check in once or twice to stay in touch. 10 pesos buys you 20 minutes, but it may be dialup... http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/wink.gif

News up top...
For you, JROO-VW... the catalog numbers are:
5144 large
5145 small
For your B5.5, you want the large set. The small set is for 98's and early 99's with a 135mm passenger side mirror. It took a good month and a half to fill the order, and that was from within Germany. I'd emailed them directly before as well but have never rx'd a reply. It's good to have friends in other countries!
And get my name right! It's...

I just rec'd the mirror covers & they look great. I want to thank you for all your hard work on this GB. Judging from your packaging they could have been thrown across the pond and still would have survived http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/wink.gif http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/wink.gif

Scotaku,
Thank you once again! I installed my covers during lunch. The passenger side cover fits like a glove. However, the driver's side has a little bit of space at the bottom on the front side. You can see the space in the 3rd pic below. Has anyone else had this? It's not that big of a deal, as the normal person won't even notice, but I'm picky like that.

D'oh, sorry Jeff... believe me, I'm feeling like a kid holding onto a kite in a tornado with all the wedding planning that Jody has taken off with. I wish I could move in to my office for a few weeks just for a break!
These fine gentlemen got their parts shipped last: vw18t, Martz, ---TJ---, phatrabbitzz, KatfishKatfish, jarovw, and marf34.
The last box is on it's way back to Germany... empty... to be filled up again and returned. It's gonna be one well-traveled cardboard box, but it's going to help us out since Mike has had a hard time finding something to wrap up the last ten sets. There will be notice posted when they're here finally. Next day service of course. Maybe then I can hide from Jody in the empty box. http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/wink.gif
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jwilson4771/smileys/Sad.gif
That's ok, thanks for the continuing effort. At least I'll probably have them for Waterfest. From what I understand of wedding planning (from my married friends) the best course of action is usually to hide until the wedding day...preferably in a local pub.

Scratch that first part... and learn a valuable lesson from your ol' pal Sco. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emhammer.gif
Never, I repeat, never leave a new bottle of carwash concentrate in the trunk of your B5. Or any car for that matter.
I'm guessing it was the heat, but the f*****g thing burst. The in.pro box is but one casualty. My trunk carpet is probably toast. It smells great, but I'm sure it will have no trouble with anything sliding around ever again.
To put it into words would just get me banned. I'm on a scale of p****d the likes of Quentin Tarantino has yet to witness. I'll be driving the Jetta for the foreseeable future. http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/mad.gif

Sco is John, and a hella fine guy too.
After seeing these on a few cars this weekend, I'm going http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/crazy.gif waiting for my set. I got to see the driver side mirror glass on John's car and it's kinda cool. Ok, it's not Blue, and I'll likely go out and get a set of the Jetta mirrors later, but for now at the price I paid I'm good with this deal.
I can't remember who to connect with which car (We need pics of us with our cars in our bios), but John had the covers on and I thought Byrd did too, as well as one or two more. They look so money. I can't wait for the pics of jwil's car with these on http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/eek.gif .

Nice pics, QAS... muchas gracias!
For everyone that's expecting stuff (checks, PayPals, actual parts!) I will be making another sanity check this afternoon and in the morning. Mike is back home from Poland (not Czechoslovakia like I assumed) and hadn't gotten word about the box he needed being destroyed in the Great Soap Soaking... he's also not received the final check which went out with the first checks that you guys should have received... er... three weeks ago. It was six checks total and my telephone teller says they've not cleared. My statement won't arrive until the 25th or so.
If none of those checks have cleared, I may have a stop payment put on all of them and send out new ones. I don't want to do that until I've gotten in touch with the other three guys who should have gotten checks too.
More this evening or by morning at the latest.

Jeff,
You're absolutely right. My work, engagement, etc are no excuse and I apologize. I've avoided the group buy thread because there has been no real news other than waiting. The last ten of the sets are still in Germany with Mike Espinoza yet to be sent... largely because the last check, the difference in what we paid versus the exchange rate we actually got, hasn't arrived. I've since cancelled the original check and sent a second one this past weekend.
If you'd prefer me to wire your cash back to you, just give the word. When your parts arrive I'll be happy to send them along to you for only their total cost so there's no extra refund to worry about.
I'll post the same to the forum. Do you mind if I quote your email?

Email: scotaku@email.com
Amount: -150.00
Date: Apr 1, 2002
Time: 16:20:53
Status: Completed
As you can see, yesterday was the four month anniversary of this payment. In the beginning you were extremely good about posting updates and keeping us in the loop. Since then, I know you've gotten engaged and have your hands full, but if you have the time to post in the other forums you should certainly have time to update the people whom you have taken money from. We only want to know where we stand with the delivery of our parts.
I must say that I am becoming extremely dissapointed with your avoidance of the issue. I'm not asking for good news, just some news of any type so that I don't think someone has made off with $150 of my hard earned cash. Could you please take a minute to update the group as to where we stand with this?
Thanks for your time.

Thanks Jeff for the update, at least I feel a little (read about the size of a dust mite) better about this. It seems a bit odd that John (Sco) would avoid the group buy forum. I understand the he recently got engaged and is working on wedding plans, and I am happy for him, but to begin something and then not see it to an end is just wrong. I am very disappointed in John, in the begining when there were a lot of people involved, himself included, it seemed to all be going fine, but now it just seems he doesn't want to be bothered. That in and of itself is why I am upset, not because the parts haven't arrived, but because I don't feel like I ( we) are being well informed. And again, I don't mind waiting but...its been 4 months
the saga continues,

I don't need the mirrors as I already have Blue Tint Heated Side Mirrors. Unfortunately, I missed the GB, cos I was already in another GB... let me know y'all.

Well kieron to sell the mirrors we (the cats in this GB) have to receive them first.......sco, i understand your busy and got wedding stuff, belive me my first cousin just had one. BUT , you do have a responsibility to those people who gave you their money. Those people would like to know what happened its been close to a month with no word either way...... http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/mad.gif Bad news is better than NO news.......i will still wait patiently for these mirrors and covers but for the love of GOD let us know. because right now i kinda feel uncomfortable knowing that my 150 bucks is just out there, and that i havent recived anything. Its been way past the original 2 week period that you originally stated.....it was cool then because at lest then we were getting updates and knowing x-actly what the deal was. I dont mind waiting the 4+ months it has taken for these things. But understand that you have a responsibility to the people involved in this GB, wedding or no wedding.

Well it's finally time to take action http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/mad.gif . I'm giving John until I get back from vacation to at least respond to this thread in one way or another or by e-mail. I am also going to e-mail him sometime today to make sure he gets the message. If I don't have a response by then, I will be calling a friend of mine in the Sheriff's department of Baltimore City, who will in turn contact the Sheriff's department in Columbia to take care of this matter. It's been a month since the last update and I'm getting fed up. I was as patient as one person could possibly be throughout this whole thing.
I need to know who has not recieved their parts and or money by next Monday so I can have an Idea what to tell my friend. I still love C http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/b5.jpg but issues like these make me a little leary about some people.

Ya know, here's the thing. I truly don't believe that there's any intended malice here, and I think everyone has been very cool about it. We all understand what a large PITA John got himself into for us to save a few bucks, and I think we all appreciate that. However, it’s damn galling that the last we heard from Mr. Scofield was over 40 days ago, when he posted ….

So here we are, not only did the promised evening / morning update never occur, it’s almost September for cryin out loud! Our understanding of personal issues and wedding planning is exhausted. We’ve seen posts made by John elsewhere on the board since then, but no word offered on this thread. I understand that as time goes by it can be easier to avoid unpleasant issues rather than deal with them head on, but this only makes it worse in the long run. I’m not even all that pissed about the money, just let us know what the hell to expect!
John, pull your head out of your ass and give us an update before this turns really ugly. I don’t want anything bad to happen here and won’t be a willing party to anything legal, but everyone here deserves some information one way or another.

I never recieved my refund check for the balance after payment....around 26.00 dollars, but I now consider myself real lucky to have gotten my mirrors...Parts4vws has had them all along...the savings does not seem to be worth the hassle at all....I am dissapointed, I was very impressed at first with Scott's handling of this GB and info...I think he is in over his head now, I bet he does not even check in now, the pressure is getting to him, I am sure...hope you guyus get your refunds/mirrors....I am going to write off the 26.00 it is not worth my time or trouble.....
Have a beer with my money Scott..... calm down and finish your other buisness with these guys, it was a big undertaking on your behalf, It needs to be put to rest though...

To all who want my head, please come and get it... it hurts so bring aspirin.
Checks are out and I've watched them clear. PayPals are also out and cleared. And now that the rest of the parts are here, I'm blowing off everything else I have to do tonight to get these out the door by morning. I've done a piss-poor job of living up to my promises, but I hope this finally ends this week.
Kudos to Mike for his help despite all the crap going on in his part of the world. My apologies and thanks to everyone who held out as long as they did. Believe me, this is the last time I try to group buy without parts in hand.

This wasn't the longest time I had to wait for something from a GB, but it was getting close. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmilep.gif Not to sound like a broken record, but a little more communication would have saved a lot of aggravation. At last! At long last!!! My baby has new earrings!! I came home today to a small brown box on my doorstep (even though I'd left a note not to put it there and it had a delivery confirmation tag on it... http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/rolleyes.gif ) but I excitedly unwrapped it and with a shout of delight I grabbed my toolbox and scurried back to my car.
Even though it was dark and I had to use a flashlight, I got those babies on. I found that there were no tools required. Follow these easy steps:
1. Move the mirror as far in toward the car as possible, and slip your fingers behind the outboard edge. A slight amount of pressure releases the clips and the mirror comes off.
2. Unplug the heating wires (white goes to the inboard connector, and brown to the outboard connector)
3. Along the front lower rear edge there are five small toungues to release, a moderate amount of pressure in a pinching action will separate the seam and release the clips. This is along the lower edge where the thin strap of plastic is on the mirror housing.
4. There are four tabs that catch four holes on the inside of the mirror housing, starting from the inboard edge, closest to the window, pull the housing straight up with moderate pressure to release the tabs.
5. The mirror cover rotates up and forward, toward the front of the car, to clear the mirror base and motor.
6. Attach the new cover by sliding over the motor and pushing straight down until seated. Make sure not to pinch either of the wires running along the back of the mirror motor, or the motor will not move. (Don't ask how I know)
7. Clip the five small toungues into place at the lower, rearward, edge of the cover where it meets the base.
8. Re-connect the wires, and reseat the mirrors.
9. Fin!

So, John, Thanks for seeing this GB through to conclusion, I am very happy with my new covers! I just wish there was still some sunlight left so I could snap a couple of pics.

Actually, I'm waiting for your update post on how best to clean the bugs off without scratching the chrome. http://www.clubb5.com/images_forum/wink.gif
Glad to see everyone is finally pleased, but please throw some props to our man Mike Espinoza over the pond helping pluck people from flooded roofs and treetops with his Army chopper and winch. He got them to me so I could get them to you.
Simple, 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol.
jwil, nice write up, I get out at 11pm, I think I'll grab the mag lite and give it a shot.
jwil I tried following your instructions, but I'm having trouble on the re-install getting the housing over the little clips on the front. I don't want to damage them, any ideas on doing this? Thanks in advance, they look great, now if I can just get them seated correctly.
I had to use a thin flat bladed screw driver as a helper to get the clips in. The InPro's are a bit stiffer than the OE covers.
WOW that was quick, I'm at work I think I'll try the screwdriver that's in the roadside service pak. Thanks again

Careful man, one slip and you could scratch them... or your car!
I persuaded the little buggers inside with a little tug from behind (remove the glass) the thin bottom part of the new cover and a firm squeeze, bottom to top to coax the tabs in. Like it was made to be there.
