It seems to me, based on certain recent events in the B5 forum, that as PassatWorld continues to accumulate new owners of old cars (and old owners of old cars, too), the need to vent frustration specifically related to the car they own is going to continue to grow. Sure, people could post rants in the Black Hole, but the Black Hole is for controversial "discussions" (i.e. arguments and pissing contests), not sympathy. Sometimes people just need to rant until they're tired of typing, and have someone say "yeah I've been through that too, it sucks" or something similarly sympathetic.
Since such venting is clearly not acceptable in the General Discussion forums anymore (if it ever was, I dunno), I propose the creation of CC/B6/B5/Early Passat "Rants" subforums where people could get things off their chests in specific regard to their Passats without bothering anyone who's asking purely technical questions. It would need to be near the top of the forum list to do any good, though, because anyone who looks at the forum list can tell almost nobody scrolls down unless they have a good reason to.
Here's hoping someone actually reads this.

My 1/4"-thick stack of maintenance invoices begs to differ. ;)

What does ranting accomplish? It's not entirely accurate to say that we don't provide a forum for ranting. More to the point, we provide a forum for finding resolutions to problems, hopefully avoiding the need to rant. Sorry, but your suggestion is ridiculous.

What does ranting accomplish? It's not entirely accurate to say that we don't provide a forum for ranting. More to the point, we provide a forum for finding resolutions to problems, hopefully avoiding the need to rant. Sorry, but your suggestion is ridiculous. Are you seriously saying you've never felt the need to go off about something that's bugging you while someone who's capable of relating to your problem listens to you? Of course finding solutions to problems is beneficial, but sometimes people (maybe not you, but people in general) need to release their pent-up frustration about their problems before they can think clearly.
Sure I can rant about my car to people in my office, or people at a bar, or even members of my own family, but people on PassatWorld have actually dealt with the same problems I'm dealing with, which makes a big difference. It's much more soothing when someone says "yeah, I've been through that, it sucks but it's not a catastrophe" when they've actually experienced the problem themselves and they know it's resolvable.
Maybe the suggestion sounds ridiculous to you, maybe you specifically have no need for it, but we've all seen evidence over the past couple of days that some people here do. Providing a space for frustrated people to vent would make PW more valuable to those people. Obviously I still have my car, so why did I leave PW for so long? Not because I couldn't find solutions to my problems, or answers to my questions, but because I got tired of being told to shut the hell up about how those problems made me feel. This isn't a forum of professional VW mechanics seeking professional advice; there's no reason to expect people to maintain professional decorum whenever they're here.
If you think I'm the only one here who's ever become totally disillusioned with my car and the company that built it, you're living in a fantasy; I'm just the guy who bothered to bring it up and offer a solution that would benefit people in the same position. I can't say as I'm surprised it's getting shot down, though, because this forum is filled with people who seem to think if I'm not a fanboy, then I must be some sort of enemy. I'm not. If I were, I wouldn't be bothering to suggest ways to improve the forum.

you got censored for using f-bombs in a public forum that any guest can read, noob. have you got a problem with that? in addition, the post you are complaining about at the start of this thread turned into a pile-on, and got locked because of it.
as for the rest of your complaint that you sent via PM, this isn't a democracy. get over it, and lower your sights a little bit lower on what your self-esteem tells you about what you think you are. if you can't, don't log on here. it's really that simple.
