question on AT, is it normal?

Hi, today I suddenly found that without pressing the little button at the end of that transmission stick (used to switch between different gears), I can also switch between D/N/R, but not from P to anywhere else.
I would like to confirm that this is not normal and shouldn't happen before I bring it to the garage. Thanks.

Drive to neutral and reverse to neutral is normal, but DNR is not. One should be locked out based on speed and forward or reverse motion.
