Lindsey in now open on Rt 28 north of Dulles. First good sign, went in to buy an oil filter for my '01 and the parts guy said, as he handed me the filter, "Yes its bigger, part of the oil sludge TSB." So at least the parts guy has a clue and treats customers like they have one too.

man, the parts guys in richmond are idiots. "I'll have to see it because I don't know what you're talking about..." is what I hear when I call unless I have the part number on hand

i just had my oil changed by them....looked on the invoice and they used the big filter & luckily I had a coupon, but even without it's not that much more than the other places I was going (crappy quicky change places).
now I'm getting ready to call to make an appointment for a bunch of other work (timng belt, hoses, 2 recall notices, etc.)
i like how they wash the car, but they barely touched the wheels...it's like they just hose it down.

As my user ID states, I'm a newbie. I had a bad/questionable experience with Lindsay VW of Dulles so hopefully this is an appropriate thread to place this warning.
I bought a 99 B5 last month after the car received a favorable pre-purchase inspection from a separate vw dealer. I took it in yesterday to Lindsay for an oil change. Got a call back with $1600 in repairs for oil cooler line leak, engine gasket leak, and PCV valve/tube replacement. All of which would/should've been caught during the pre-purchase inspection; according to the other vw dealership. I halted all work by Lindsay and took it back to the other dealer for a 2nd opinion. I'm waiting for the final word.
A coworker also had a similar up sale or seemingly unnecessary repairs recommended by Lindsay. I expect to pay more $$ at the stealership for parts and labor that are needed, but not for unnecessary services. Lindsay is a nice facility but buyer beware of how they're paying for the plasma monitor in the waiting area, the drive-in customer service bay, some of the eye candy behind the cashier's desk.
From now on, I'll be checking out the local independent shops recommended on this site.
