Volkswagen Passat Performance Concept Previews New Sports Sedan

Taking a spot on the show floor here at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show is the VW Passat Performance Concept, giving Volkswagen’s large sedan a shot of adrenaline.

For power, a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the car with 250 hp, and sends power through a six-speed automatic transmission. Lowered sport suspension has been added, along with electro-mechanical steering to give the Passat some track-ready capabilities.

wow thats slick. really nice. dual exhaust looks awesome. wonder why they went with a 1.8l turbo tho??? any ideas?? instead of the 2.0t. im also wondering what its capabilities are. if its already tuned out to the max or if they just put a ko4 turbo on it and it can still be tuned out. that is a really nice passat. i love my passats. gonna have to get me one of those TOO. :=)

The 1.8 is either an error, or they were displaying an engine from the European market. They ARE going smaller, though. Maybe they can up the output somehow, but it'll be hard to match the 2.0. I'm wondering why they're bothering, though. They already HAVE the Passat 'sport sedan' in the CC! Just make that faster, and you're done!

Yah I don't know. I was thinking maybe they went 1.8l better gas mileage than 2.0 and put a ko4 Turbo on it like the golf R's. That would easily really h the 250 mark. I do really like the cc's but I do not like how the back end sloaps down. 2inches less head room. Which doesn't sound like a lot but when there's only 2 inches or less of clearance for in the back seat that's a huge deal. Tho I might buy a CC for my girl and take the 08 passat I just bought her. I put a Apr ko4 kit on it and about all the other bolt ins. I don't think she can properly use that horse power. :-)
