Carpet mold - how to remove (for good)?

Sup guys, am in the process of getting my 2001 Passat 4motion on the road and in my adventures of finding all the different issues the previous owner left it with, I found one, possibly two leaky points - one at the AC grommet, which I re-inserted and siliconed up tight, and then the air filter looks like it could be a point for water entry.

My question is, what the hell do I do about this mold I saw when I tore back the RF kickpanel's carpet?? Would it be worth it to just track down an entire new carpeting and take the whole thing out instead of trying to remove this crap??

It's like any mold on fabrics, you can't get rid of it . Pull it out, wash underneath with 1-1 bleach and buy new carpet.

Yes, from a dealership. As with anything purchased from a VW dealer: think of a reasonable price, then triple it.

Hard to replace, I'm assuming? What with all the seat wiring etc?

You could try a mold and mildew spray. Rip up the carpet spray that shit and put a fan in to move air for a day.

See, I have this industrial grade stuff I'm going to use that one of my janitor buddies is going to get me, but I keep reading how mold is impossible to remove, how it always comes back etc etc, and I keep wondering if it'd be less hassle to just cut that section out and stitch in some aftermarket carpet that I can get cheap online.

The other option would be to replace the carpet completely - anyone know where to find aftermarket carpet for Passats?? I feel like the dealership is going to bend me over wayyyyyy more than I can afford.

Also - junkyard passats - common? Think I might be able to get a carpet there?

yeah a junkyard passat could be an option and probably wont be as much as a new one. also check the classifides for a part out. that may work as well

I'm getting a complete upgrade and sound deadening for my GTI from here for under $250. It's pre-molded and you can choose the color, density etc.
And it's not expensive at all.

They don't have Passats listed, but I would contact them and ask.

bleach? wouldn't that make his carpeting turn white?
