Passat Performance Concept Brings Back the 1.8T

Days before it hits the show floor in Detroit, Volkswagen has unveiled the Passat Performance Concept, packed with a turbocharged engine and some performance enhancing goodies.

Injecting the Passat with some adrenaline is a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 250 hp and sending power through a six-speed automatic transmission.

To mate the power with performance, a lowered sport suspension has been added along with electro-mechanical steering to enhance the handling performance of the car.

For style, the Passat Performance concept gets dual exhaust, 19-inch alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon headlights with advanced front lighting system and LED tailights. The mirror caps get carbon applications, while inside, carbon-like inserts are found in the dashboard and on the two-tone seats, complements by a black headliner and side pillars.

The Passat Performance Concept won't be a concept for long with VW promising it will inspire a future "sports sedan". As a result, the Passat line will gain a performance variant to keep it in line with the GTI and GLI versions of both the Golf and Jetta.

That's pretty neat. But nothing can save those body lines. Just looks like a Camry

They may be 19" wheels (supposedly) but the tires look pretty narrow in the picture. Pretty 'bleh' looking design too - not what you'd expect a "performance concept" to look like...

Now all it needs is 4mo and 3 pedals.

Hate to say this, but when that thing comes out, I might trade in my B5.5 for it, if available here. I agree it kind of looks like a Camry, but it looks pretty darn fine in my opinion (although not a fan of the 19'' wheels).

    The return of the 1.8T!

If it had 4 Motion I'd be sold but I need AWD where I live since I travel over 40 miles back and forth to work.

Don't like it at all, I haven't liked the new styles of any VW models since mk5 came out.
