    Led drl help!

So I just bought a pair of led drl's from ebay. I need help with the wiring. In the photo below, you can see that the drls are connected together and there is a red and black wire for power. I tried to hook it up to my headlight wires, and obviously it didnt work since I'm posting here. I saw a post on this from a while ago, but the pictures are gone, and it wasn't so clear. Where could I wire the red and black wires to? Im a beginner. Thanks alot in advance!

I'd probably go to the parking light bulb. The little orange one on the side of your headlights. For best effect, get a euro switch so you can turn the parking lights on seperately from the headlights.

Didn't see the advert -- do you have the eBait URL where you bought?
These may be CANbus friendly with a resistor incorporated into the housing, should be in the advert
If not, then you could get a bulb-out error and that light circuit shuts down until reset. Or the circuit sees a load equivalent to a bulb

Looking for some for my '06 Estate B6 -- let us know how you get on?

Bolt the black to the car. Ie. loosen a body bolt and that's your gnd. The open the fuse box and from standing in front pull the fuse from the closest left of the panel. Fold the red wire around the left fuse post so that it will be pushed into the slot. And ur done. Ill try to post a pic of that fuse for you later. That fuse is on when the car is on so the drls will be on when the car is. No switches no fuss.

There you go. Sry bout the pic quality. My focus is gone on my iPhone.
    I hope that this helps.
There is nothing to worry about piggybacking this fuse. It's 10 amps and your lights are in the milli amp range. Mine have been installed trouble free for almost two years now.
Good luck. Have fun and post some picks
Oh let me know if ya need help and I'll do what I can.

Richard, just search for "led drl" in eBay and you'll get thousands of results.
    Have fun.

Yes, since my post earlier saw the connection for switched 12V So seems I don't have to worry about "CANbus friendly"
Asked about where you purchased, as yours are fitting into your lower fogs' grills and operating correctly you've done the research!

Hey guys thanks alot for the help. I'm gonna find some time this week to put them in. Just need to find some other wires since these cant reach all the way to the fuse box. The link that I got the leds from is below

    2 x 2005 2008 Audi A6 Q5 Q7 9 LED Daytime Running Lights DRL LED 009 | eBay

    Thanks Again!

    Hey Semir,
Mine too were too short so I went to a hobby shop and bought some same gauge wire and some heat shrink insulation and made it work. Total while hiding the wire I must have use well over six to seven feet. LOL. But you only see the wire come up at the fuse box.
It's fun and easy to do, enjoy the install. But just a warning.... It will lead to more "involved" mods in the future.

Thanks a lot for the heads up Yidaki. You did a good job hiding the wire lol. Which way did you route it to the fuse box? Also, I was just wondering what gauge wire did you use? I was thinking about getting 18. Is that alright?

    Thanks again

    Post

I will have to check once I get home tonight.
I will let you know for sure but I think it was more like 20 or 22.
I had lots of wire so I used tiny zip ties and routed the wires up to under the top edge of the grill.
I twisted the wires with a drill to keep them neat, and went all the way around behind the fuse box.
Because the fuse box has a lip around it I notched the edge out a bit to accomodate the wire.
Sorry for the blurry pic, but you can just make out the notch I made.
My next LED mod when it gets warmer up here is to install a 3' or so (maybe double up 6') LED light strip under the interior lip of the trunk.
I hope to make finding things in the trunk a lot easier then the stock light.
Maybe next will be the foot wells, and maybe some puddle lights.

Thanks again man. I'm just a bit confused with what you said earlier about switching the red and black wires. Shouldn't the red go to the fuse, and black go to negative? Thats what I think it should be.

Yeah sorry Semir, I should have clarified.
The wires on mine were reversed so the red went to the body/gnd and black went to the fuse as in the pictures earlier. Check your wires with a 9V battery. Easy to tell as LEDs only work one way.
I was able to check the gauge of my wire and it's 20. They are usually solid core at this gauge so I would recommend that you select the same.

    Good luck.

From the pic it looks like you have the lower grill with no fogs. I have the same ones. Did you have to cut to get the led to fit in there snug. Yours look pretty cool. Did you use the brackets they come with or something else. Thanks.

    Hey SmokinBiz,
These r my second install. I initially had installed those flexible led strips the are "waterproof". Well they may have been waterproof but lost the battle with the road salt the first winter. Yes I had to use my dremil to make these fit. Then I used no brackets, I just drilled through the grill and screwed them on. I also used silicone in the drilled holes, plus I used some exterior grade double side tape.
I kinda went overboard with the second install. So far these are in their 3rd winter and are running fine. If these burn out then I may be at the point to replace my lower grills.

    Have fun.

Thanks bro. I pulled the grills yesterday just to do a figment and noticed there is no way to get it clean without cutting. Thanks for confirming. Now I have another reason to buy another tool lol. I think your idea of foregoing the brackets is what I will do. I want that clean almost stock looking finish. Thank again. The nice part is I can pull them and bring me inside the garage where it's nice and warm. I replaced my DV yesterday in 20 degree weather. Had it mostly in the garage but couldn't close the door all the way, even with a heater it was cold. But that is done, led are next.

Looking good. Any tips or pointers? How much of a pain was it running the wiring? Especially behind the grills?

The wiring isn't bad at all. All you need to worry about is having enough wire to reach from the grilles to the power source. Other than that it is extremely simple. My biggest trouble was getting the lights to fit in the grilles. The lights are supposed to go in a bit deeper than the space available in the grille. It took be about two and a half hours to fix up the grills to be able to stick the lights in. Do you know where you plan on wiring your lights? I did exactly what Yidaki said, and the lights work fine. If you have any other questions I'll be glad to assist you to the best of my ability.

Yeah I am planning on doing the same as Yidaki. I will contact you guys if I run into any issues. From that pick it looks like grand Concourse. Am I right? That's where I grew up. Thanks for the info bro.
