2007 Passat, sunroof opens on it's own

Anyone had this problem before? Wife's car will often pop the sunroof up about 1/4 of the way for no apparent reason. I hardly ever drive the car and it's happened to me 3 times now. She says it happens once a week or more to her.

I found lots of threads with this happening to 98-99's when the contacts were dirty. Same issue on the B6 generation?

My sunroof started acting wacky when the battery started to die. Probably not your issue but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Could the switch be on it's way out?

Same thing started happening to my 2006 Passat as well. Called the dealer and the clown on the phone thought I was going insane. I hope this gets escalated because I'm beginning to lose patience with this car and brand.

I noticed sometimes when i close the sunroof from almost full tilt to close, it does not close all the way, then i give the knob a light touch, and it closes, i guess its something to do with the contacts,
today for the first time, it tilted up on its own just like you described it. wonder if that'll start happening more often now.
maybe there's a way to open it up and clean it? haven't tried it.

I got rid of this car today and got a 2009 VW CC Sport with only 2800 miles on it. My Passat had almost 100K miles on it, so it was worth it. Plus little things started to crop up and I was out of warranty. Hope you guys get your issues solved soon.

    Hi Guys,

took the center top console out, digged in until i got to the switch itself, opened it up and cleaned the contacts with alcohol pad. problem solved.
