Does anyone else hate the Chrome trim? Can I remove it?

I have already blacked out the front grill and emblem. Now I need to remove the chrome trim on the doors and bumpers. I have searched the net and can not find out if there are any clips behind the trim on the B6. Has anyone removed the trim? Is it just stuck on with adhesive or clips?

Luckily my window and pillar trim is already black....

I believe you can get the grille and just replace it.

Make sure you get the spray. There is a different kind in a can that is used to dip tool handles.

i used 2 coats of rust oleum textured spray then plastic dip in between coats and it is flaking like crazy. i will have to try JIron's method next. i even went through the 2 hr process of sanding everything down. never had anyone else wash my car always hand washed. so i recommend not doing the spray method.

according to the repair manual, the side moldings are held by adhesive

the rear bumper trim, appears to be clipped in, which requires bumper removal

Just plastidip. Or plastidip first then use the other spry if you really feel the need to. My car just has about 4 coats of plastidip and it has been through the summer heat and winter storms and it hasnt chipped or faded. The plastidip is textured as is.

Hate it? I love my chrome. But my last car was a B5 with a blackout theme going (except for the wheels).

I only wish they equipped all the waggies with chrome roof rails.

I've got an 07 "value edition" wagon and I love that part of the "value" is the lack of chrome. the roof rack and window trim is already black.

one thing I do want to get rid of is the chrome around the shifter - anyone know if this insert is replaceable? and if so, where can I shop for the parts? I've looked high and low and come up with nothing.
