Ok so first of all just want to say i love these forums. Been using them to diagnose my 99 Passat for over 5 years now.
Here's the story:
I was driving around an hour and a half with weather in the 80's. I was running low on gas and stopped at Racetrack to fill up the car with a couple of gallons (was about at 1/4-1/2 tank). After filling up standard gas, started car up and drove not even half a mile to Starbucks. Parked in the parking lot at went inside for about 5 mins. Came out of the store and tried to start car, The crank is going as usual, and the initial 1-3 cranks sounds as if the engine wants to start but then just cranks at the usual speed with no sigh of catching. I opened the hood and noticed it was hotter than usual, though the temperature gauge said 190 as usual. I decided to give it a little break and cool down for about 30 mins. at temp 140-ish i tried to start again. Same thing. A man was walking by and told me my timing belt was busted. Even though the belt was turning and the crank was sounding fin (not any faster than normal). Another guy told me I may have got bad gasoline or water in the gas. I don't trust random people about passats, because as we all know they are their own breed. I have a V6 2.8L engine. Will tow tomorrow to a local mechanic (car is 40 miles from home, wanna save on towing fees. Plus i dont have a reliable mechanic down here in Florida)
I turn to you Passat World! what do you think the problem may be?
