Welcome nelleh. I recently bought an 03 passat wagon and had a similar issue with the rear hatch saying it was open. Found out that when I used the rear window squirter (thats just a technical name) it leaked inside on the sensor and once it was wet wouldn't read that it was closed. would get an annoying ding until the sensor dried out. Hopefully once it's good and dry you won't have any issues. Good Luck!
