Broken Oil Sump Restrictor plate - is replacement really necessary??

    Hello all-

I have an '01.5 Passat 1.8T AWM and I have a question as to whether or not the part I mentioned in the title is really important. I am in the process of replacing my cracked oil pan, and this plastic plate has broken from where it attaches to the oil pump. It is Sunday and I will not be able to find a replacement today. I would rather button it up now with the new pan and get it back on the road for tomorrow, but I cannot determine if it is vital to have this part replaced. The part # in ETKA is 06B 103 623 C, and is called a restrictor. I have attached an image so you can see what I am talking about. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also known as the windage tray. If you have broken yours and not replaced it, let me know how it has worked out for you.

you should replace it..it helps keep the oil from sloshing and from moving to one side of the oil pan while turning and running the oil pump dry momentarily

Yeah I know what it does, I was just curious if others who have broken theirs went without it. It seems that it would work without it, and the only reason I was curious was to expedite the job. Just picked one up and it is going in now. Thanks for the input!
