Light bulb replacement for lower heater control cluster

Regarding my wife's 2005 Passat TDI Wagon, the lower heater control cluster bulb apparently is burned out. A VW service writer told me the other day, while I had my 2007 NBC in for service, just how to remove the front panel to replace the bulb, but apparently he was incorrect as the knob does not come off. Joe told me to place the fan speed control knob on the number 2 position and then pull the knob off which will give me access to the bulb...this did not work.

Can someone tell me how to remove the lower cluster cover so I can replace the bulb that lights uo the fan speed/temperature control and air flow position?

    I thank you in advance.

    Jerry

Joe told you the correct info. Those knobs can be very difficult to get loose. It'll pull straight out.

You just pry carefully around the edges and it pops off. Still can't get to the bulb? Surprise! You have to pull the knob off. I padded the jaws of a pair of pliers with a couple of layers of cloth to get mine off.

I used long needle nose pliers insulated with inner tube rubber so as not to mar the knob surface. Squeeze tight and pull straight out.

Thanks folks....and thanks to mcseforsale for the nice pics. I'm just checking the posts now as I've been away for a bit. I will definitely change the bulb out tomorrow so I can stop fumbling around in the dark looking for the A/C button.

    Thank you again.
